DUCTILE ERRORS IN STAAD

Dear Sir,

1. *** WARNING : UDL LOADING IS NOT DEFINED FOR MEMBER # 3.

DEFAULT VALUE WILL BE USED.

You need to specify the load combination with DL+LL combination as EUDL parameter.

For example, if load combination 21 is 1.5 (DL+LL), in your design parameters, you need to add "EUDL
21 all" in addition to your regular parameters like FC, FYMAIN, etc.

2. ***WARNING: SINGLY OVER-REINFORCED SECTION BEING BRITTLE SHOULD ALWAYS BE AVOIDED

IN EARTHQUAKE RESISTANT DESIGN. MODIFY SECTION DIMENSION.

You need to resize the section as brittle failure mode is not allowed in ductile detailing. Beam width or
depth should be increased.

3. *** WARNING: RATIO OF SHORTEST DIMENSION TO THE PERPENDICULAR DIMENSION OF COLUMN

# 580 SHALL PREFERABLY BE NOT LESS THAN 0.4.

As of now, this is just a warning. As per Draft Code, such large ratios will have additional consequences.

4. WARNING : No. of reinf. layers exceeds 2 reducing effective depth at section 1

WARNING : No. of reinf. layers exceeds 2 reducing effective depth at section 2

As the number of layers to place reinforcement is more, effective depth is reduced. Hence, you may
require more steel. A manual calculation is suggested to review sufficiency of design.

5. *** WARNING:LENGTH TO DEPTH RATIO FOR MEMBER 578 IS LESS THAN 2.5. DEEP BEAM IS NOT
DESIGNED. ASSUMING IT TO BE A PART OF A CONTINUOUS BEAM AND AWAY FROM THE CRITICAL
SECTION FOR ENHANCED SHEAR, ORDINARY SHEAR CHECK IS PERFORMED. OTHERWISE PROVIDE
ENSH AND RENSH PARAMETERS ***

Warning in regular design as well as Ductile design

6. *** WARNING : DEPTH OF BEAM # 576 SHALL PREFERABLY BE LESS THAN THE 1/4TH OF CLEAR
SPAN AS PER CL 6.1.4 ASSUMING IT TO BE SPANNING BETWEEN SUPPORTS. IF NOT, USE COMBINE
PARAMETER. --- how to use combine parameter to remove this warning

If a span of a beam is broken up as a group of members due to cross beams, STAAD should be given
Combine parameter to inform that the series of beam members form a single span. Review the Combine
parameter documentation for more details.

Further, you wanted to know if Ductile Detailing is required in Pune. As per IS 1893 Part 1, Pune is in
Zone III. As per IS13920, ductile detailing is mandatory for RCC buildings in Zones III, IV and V. Hence,
Ductile detailing is required in Pune.

Hope that helps.
