1. Minimum number of bars = 6. Although calculations are made for total 8 nos. of bar,
it can be used for more number of bars without significant error, subject to
satisfying the requirements of IS:456-2000 regarding spacing of bars, maximum
percentage of steel, cover, etc.
2. All bars are considered to be of same diameter.
3. The bars are considered to be uniformly spaced along the circumference, as shown.
4. If the steel used has different strength from those considered, the spreadsheet
can still be used considering the nearest value of strength, and the area of
reinforcement considered is to be modified in proportion to the ratio of strengths.
5. Cover to bars is considered uniform all round, and it is to be clear to the main bars,
and not for links. Links considered are of 'hoop' type, and not of 'helical' type.
6. Applied loads Pu and Mu act on the centroid of column section.
7. Range of permissible values of Pu and Mu for the column section considered,
can be seen in worksheet on 'Pu&Mu Chart'.
8. Calculations can be made for 10 (ten) number load cases for the column section
considered. For any case without inputs, inputs for that case are to be left blank
by using 'Delete' key.
