Preface
Purpose
This manual describes detailed upgrading guide, FAQ, and troubleshootings
for ZTE eRreader softer (hereafter referred to as “ZTE eReader”).

Intended Audience
This manual is intended for:

 User who wish to upgrade the ZTE eReader software.

Conventions
Describes conventions of symbols, keyboard operations, mouse operations,

1. Symbol conventions

Phrases in angular brackets “< >” indicate keys, buttons, and


information typed from terminal computers. Phrases in square brackets
“[ ]” indicate human-machine interface, menus, data sheets, and
fieldnames. Menus in different levels are separated by “→”. For example,
[File→New→Folder] means item [Folder] in the submenu [New] of the
menu [File].

2. Mouse operation conventions

Action Description
Click Press down the left mouse button and release it quickly.
Double click Press down the left mouse button and release it quickly for twice.

Right click Press down the right mouse button and release it quickly.
Drag Press down the right mouse button and move the mouse.

3. Safety sign conventions

This manual uses the following safety signs. For their descriptions, refer
to the table below.

Chapter 1 Important Information Before
Upgrading
1.1 Version Description of ZTE eReader
The ZTE eReader versions are in format of YYYYMMDD(VX.XX). The
“YYYYMMDD” indicates the release date (year-month-day) of the software.
The “VX.XX” indicates the version No.

Example: 20130118 (V1.03). This version indicates a ZTE eReader software of


V1.03 version released in January 18th, 2013.

The user can query the software version by the following steps.

Right click on the icon of ZTE eReader in the operating system busbar,
click on [Settings], ZTE eReader dialogue box pops up. Select About label.

1.2 New Version Release of ZTE eReader


ZTE corporation releases the new versions of ZTE eReader by these two
approaches.

1. On the technical support website of ZTE:
http://support.zte.com.cn/support/index.aspx?_langType=en. The user
can find the latest version of ZTE eReader at the left bottom corner of
the home page, see the figure below.

2. In the document disks provided along with equipments.

1.3 Configuring Upgrading Parameters


Taking ZTE eReader 20130118(V1.03) as an example, configure the upgrading
parameters by the following steps.

1. Right click on the icon of ZTE eReader in the operating system


busbar, click on [Settings], ZTE eReader dialogue box pops up.

2. Select [Settings] label, type user name and password in [UpgradeSetting]
area.

 Note

Upgrade user name and password are the same user name and password
the user registered on ZTE technical support website
(http://support.zte.com.cn/support/index.aspx?_langType=en).

Chapter 2 Upgrading Procedure
Abstract
Two methods to upgrade ZTE eReader are introduced in this chapter.

1. Automatic upgrading mode

2. Manual upgrading mode

2.1 Application scenario 1: automatic upgrading mode


After upgrading ZTE eReader by automatic mode, all data in the old version
will be preserved, including document packs, favorites, remarks, and user
accounts.

Prerequisites

 The user has registered on the ZTE technical support website


(http://support.zte.com.cn/support/index.aspx?_langType=en).

 The user can enter the website


http://support.zte.com.cn/support/index.aspx?_langType=en.

Upgrading steps

1. Check if the upgrading parameters are configured in the current ZTE


eReader. For detail operations, refer to 1.3 Configuring Upgrading
Parameters.

2. Right click on the icon of ZTE eReader in the operating system


busbar, click on [Upgrade Software], the upgrading instruction interface
pops up, see the figure below.

3. Click on <Next> to connect to the server to check if new version is
available. If yes, do the operations follow the instructions.

2.2 Application scenario 2: manual upgrading mode


Context

The user could manually upgrade the ZTE eReader if the ZTE technical
support website (http://support.zte.com.cn/support/index.aspx?_langType=en)
is not available.

Caution:

Before upgrade the ZTE eReader, do backup the data files first, including
zed document packs, favorites, remarks and user accounts.

Prerequisites

1. Acquire the software

Acquire the latest ZTE eReader software by either of the following ways
and locate it in the local computer.

 Download it from the ZTE technical support website


(http://support.zte.com.cn/support/index.aspx?_langType=en).

 Copy it from the document disks provided along with the
equipment.

Upgrading steps

1. Acquire the software

Acquire the latest ZTE eReader software by either of the following ways
and locate it in the local computer.

 Download it from the ZTE technical support website


(http://support.zte.com.cn/support/index.aspx?_langType=en).

 Copy it from the document disks provided along with the


equipment.

2. Click [Start→Programs→ZTE eReader→Uninstall ZTE eReader] to


uninstall the ZTE eReader, do the operations follow the instructions.

3. Unzip the latest version of ZTE eReader installation pack.

4. Double click the “setup.exe” file to start the installation procedure.

5. Click on <Next> to select the destination folder for installation.

6. Click on <Next> to enter the next interface, do not change the settings.

7. Click on <Next> to enter the username and password setting interface. Set
the administrative account according to actual needs.

Tip:

The default username and password are both “admin”.

8. Click on <Next> to start software installation.

The system will prompt “Finished successfully!” after successful installation.
