Clinitek STATUS External Interface Specification
2004-01
Part Numbers
N/A
Purpose
The purpose of this bulletin is to provide Technical Support personnel the connectivity
specification for the Clinitek STATUS instrument should a customer want to interface
their instrument with a computer.
Problem
Not applicable
Action
For those customers wishing to connect their Clinitek STATUS analyzer to a computer,
the following information contained in this bulletin should be provided to them. The
current Clinitek STATUS interface capabilities are different than previous Clinitek
systems. Clinitek STATUS does NOT interface the same as the Clinitek 50. The two
main differences are;
• the data is comma delimited
• there is no automatic send feature.
The user must press the ‘Send all data’ button in order to send the information across to
the computer. A 9-pin null modem serial cable will be required.
• The settings for the communications are configured via the instrument set up menus.
Note: See Clinitek STATUS Operator’s Manual Chapter 5 ‘Instrument Set Up
– Instrument Settings’ for instructions on setting up the connectivity
features of the instrument (baud rate, parity, stop bit).
• No access to handshaking via hardware or software is provided, although hardware is
provided for future development.
• The instrument is capable of Baud Rates 9600, 19200, 56700 and 115200 for the transfer of
data.
• The instrument can be configured for even, odd or no parity check.
• The instrument can be configured for use with 1 or 2 stop bits.
• The instrument provides an ASCII comma delimited result output only.

• The instrument serial number is only sent if enabled through the instrument set up menu. An
empty field is sent if this feature is disabled.
For internal use only. Do not distribute outside of Bayer Corporation.
This information is provided as an aid in Technical Support for trained support personnel.
Do not attempt to service the system without the appropriate technical training and the proper tools.

shown on a succession of lines for clarity):

Date Time
No. Serial No. ID Name Header Data ID Type
• * = as required
• The instrument serial number is only sent if enabled in the instrument set up menu. An empty
field is sent if disabled.
• The following table defines what is sent in the cassette type field.
• For cassette tests with no errors reported an test abbreviation is sent in the test abbreviation
field. The abbreviation for a Clinitest® hCG test is ‘hCG’.
• If an error was stored, then the Test Abbr. 1 field shall contain the message ‘Enn’, where nn
is the code of the error that occurred during the test. No further fields are transmitted, aside
from the <CR>.
• The remaining fields are sent in a similar manner as the traditional urine strip data.
• The Mark Positive 1 field is empty for a normal result or contain an ‘*’ for an abnormal test
result if the instrument has been configured to ‘Mark Positives’, otherwise it is left blank.
• Purpose
The purpose of this screen is to enable the operator to select which test results to recall, or to
enable all data to be sent to a PC.
Press the ‘Recall Results’ button on the ‘Select Ready’ screen to recall any stored patient results
and to send information across to the computer. The ‘Select Test Results’ screen will be
displayed listing any stored patient results. Press the ‘Send all data’ button to transfer the data
from the instrument to a computer. It will send all data contained in memory. The user can not
select specific results to be sent to the computer.
• Specifications
• This list contains up to 200 results. The 201st result to be stored will overwrite the 1st result
stored.
• ‘Send all data’ key cannot be disabled. If 'Send all data' is pressed but the ‘Allow results to
be sent to PC’ function has not been enabled, then the following message will be displayed
on the Alert screen:
'Data transfer has not been enabled in Instrument Set Up'
• If 'Send all data' is pressed but no data appears on the screen (i.e. there are no saved results),
then the following message will be displayed:
'No data to send'
• Uploading will transfer all of the currently stored test results to the connected PC. This will
NOT delete records from the instrument memory. With each pressing of the ‘Send all
data’ button could result in multiple copies of the same patient results being sent to
the computer.
