One sunny day, a poor fisherman caught a very fine fish. He was about to throw him in his basket, when
the fish spoke, “I am not a usual fish. I am magic. Please put me back in the water.” “Of course,” said the
fisherman. “I couldn’t eat a talking fish anyway.” He let the fish live and went home to his wife. The
fisherman and his wife lived in a very small and very old hut. It was so old that they feared for their lives.
When the fisherman told his wife about the talking fish, she cried out, “Oh, John! What you did was nice
but… You should have asked for something in return. A nice little cottage to live in, for instance.” So, the
fisherman went to the shore and called the fish. The fish came and listened to the man. “Of course I can
make your wish come true,” the fish said. The fisherman went back home and, where his old hut used to
be, there was a nice cottage with flowers in front and a nice vegetable garden near it. The fisherman and
his wife lived there happily for many years.
