INTASC Standard #7: Planning for Instruction

The teacher plans instruction that supports every student in meeting rigorous learning goals by
drawing upon knowledge of content areas, curriculum, cross-disciplinary skills, and pedagogy, as
well as knowledge of learners and the community context.

Licensure/Content Standard #1a: Knowing and understanding young children’s characteristics

and needs, from birth to age 8.
Licensure/Content Standard #4d: Reflecting on own practice to promote positive outcomes for
each child.
Licensure/Content Standard #5b: Knowing and using the central concepts, inquiry tools, and
structures of content areas or academic disciplines
Licensure/Content Standard #5c: Using own knowledge, appropriate early learning standards,
and other resources to design, implement, and evaluate developmentally meaningful and
challenging curriculum for each child.

Description of Evidence and how it demonstrates the standard(s):

This simple common/proper noun lesson plan demonstrates the preplanning of instruction for an
essential lesson. Using multiple forms of teaching and learning strategies can greatly add to the
comprehension of this concept.

Implications for Future Teaching:

Students love using the white board in front of the whole class. They enjoy showing the teacher
and their classmates what they know and they greatly enjoy using other tools of learning (e.g.
white board vs. turning in an assignment on paper). This lesson plan allows the students to
answer questions about common nouns and proper nouns on the white board and read and
answer questions in the books aloud. Using reinforcements is important too. The students will
receive constant tickets for behaving well and giving answers and participating. Upon writing
this lesson plan, I used the tickets in a different way. I gave them each 5 tickets and would take
tickets away if they misbehaved. However, instead of taking away something they did not even
earn to begin with, I would change this aspect of the lesson plan and have the students earn the
tickets. This would be more meaningful to them and would encourage others to behave well so
they can also earn tickets. After doing this lesson plan with a class, I was able to look back and
see what was successful and what was not. In the future, I would change the way I originally had
planned the reinforcements, but keep the strategy of using a different form of assessment (white
board answers) rather than having them turn in an assignment on paper.
