SUBSEA PROCESSING

Subsea Permanent Magnet Motor (SSPMM)

Advantages over Induction
Subsea pumping is one of the most mature solutions for increasing oil recovery from subsea tie-backs. In boosting applications,
seabed pumps improve production economics by reducing backpressure on the reservoir which increases flow rates and total
recoverable reserves. In other applications where there is poor sweep efficiency or low reservoir drive, single phase pumps can be
used to inject water (seawater or produced water) into the reservoir to increase reservoir pressure and sweep hydrocarbons from
the formation, raising recovery and enabling increased production rates.

In pursuit of the right technology to maximize performance for our operator customers, FMC Technologies and Sulzer Pumps, the
world leader in pumping solutions, are breaking new ground with technology that is revolutionizing subsea pumping. Through our
partnership with Sulzer Pumps, we are offering a full range of pumps, including multiphase, single phase and hybrid, and motors
using permanent magnet motor technology.

Type Normal Application

configuration
SINGLE PHASE HORIZONTAL or » Highest differential pressure capability among pump types
VERTICAL » Handles low Gas Volume Fraction (GVF) <10% of suction conditions
(Centrifugal) » Boosting of low Gas/Oil Ratio (GOR) oil production
» Maintains reservoir pressure and improved reservoir sweep when used to
inject water

HYBRID HORIZONTAL or » Combination of helico-axial and centrifugal impeller stages, capable of achieving
VERTICAL higher efficiency and boost over helico-axial technology alone
(Centrifugal & » Primary application is for use downstream of separator or in low GOR applications
Helico-axial) where GVF is consistently up to 25% of suction conditions
» High tolerance of free gas
» Applied successfully in gas/liquid separation projects where liquid is boosted

MULTIPHASE HORIZONAL or » Applicable for higher GVF boosting applications, with typical range from 30% to
VERTICAL 95% at suction conditions
(Helico-axial) » Moderate particulate tolerance
» Simple, low cost intervention compared to other pump types
» Higher power capabilities
