Election of Governing Board President and Vice
President
The governing board members elected Amy Bhola as
board president and Amy Krauss as vice president for
2018.
Consideration of Revisions to Policy JFABC
Admission of Transfer Students (second reading)
Associate Superintendent Mary Jo Conery presented
the second reading of the policy that establishes that
school districts may evaluate the transcript of transfer
students for the assignment of credit. She reported that
this is in response to House Bill 2389 under the
heading, “Credit of Graduation Requirements” in
Chapter 7 of A.R.S. 15-701. At the first reading on
December 12, the board recommended rearrangement
of some of the language of the policy. Board members
recommended a minor paragraph language change to
the policy under the category of “Credit for Graduation
Requirements.” All other recommended revisions
proposed at the first reading remained the same. The
board approved the policy, as amended.
Consideration of Revisions to Policy IJJ
Textbooks/Supplementary Materials Selection and
Adoption (second reading)
Dr. Conery presented the second reading of the policy
that included recommended revisions to add language
related to the display of high school textbooks for a 60-
day period and the posting of related information on
the district website. She reported that this is in
response to Senate Bill 1204 that adjusted language
found in A.R.S. 15-102 and 15-722. There were no
other recommended revisions proposed at the first
reading on December 12. The board approved the
policy, as presented.

Consideration of Revisions to Policy IJNDB, Use of
Technology Resources In Instruction, and Related
Regulation IJNDB-R, Exhibit IJNDB-EA, Exhibit
IJNDB-EC and Exhibit IJNDB-ED (second reading)
Dr. Conery presented the second reading and
reviewed the proposed revised and deleted language
to the policy, regulation, and exhibits that are required
in the statute. The revisions will align the definition of
directory information previously approved in regulation
JR-R with the definition of personally identifiable
information referenced in the regulation and related
exhibits. She reported that with the passage of Senate
Bill 1314 and the addition of A.R.S. 15-1046, there is a
requirement that parents are notified about policies
regarding the use of technology and the internet while
at school and a parent’s ability to prohibit their
student’s use. At the first reading on December 12,
board members recommended minor wording
organization to revisions to the policy, regulation, and
exhibits. The board approved the policy, as presented.
Consideration of Changes to High School Courses
and Programs for 2018-2019 (first reading)
Dr. Conery presented the first reading of the proposed
changes to high school courses and programs for
implementation in the 2018-2019 school year. The
changes included World Languages, Science, Fine
Arts - Performing Arts, and CTE/JTED Programs. Dr.
Conery reviewed proposed changes to the following
Fine Arts and Performing Arts: Orchestra, Advanced
Theatre, Advanced Theatre Arts; World Languages-
Spanish: Communication and Culture. She also
reviewed changes to the CTE/JTED Programs and
Pathways: Science – Bioscience; Science – Sports
Medicine and Rehabilitation Program. The board will
review the course changes again on January 23.

Annual Conference
Board members reported on the informative sessions
that they had attended at the December conference.
2017 Arizona Legislative / Governmental Activity
Board members shared information regarding
Governor Ducey’s outline for the education portion of
his budget plan, although the detail of the budget
proposal will not be disclosed until the end of this
week. The governor’s budget proposes to restore cuts
to capital, the District Additional Assistance’s formula
over 5 years, and provides for the second half of last
year’s promised 2% teacher salary over a two year
