The Greater Good

What does “the greater good” actually mean? I have heard this quote all of
my life I guess but I never really thought about it until I faced some things in
my life, in my family and in my walk with God, which I thought were not
for “my greater good” but it did and will turn out to be for “The Greater
Good”.

We all face things that, at the time, we just can’t see how it could be for our
good. How can something bad be good? That is hard to explain to people
who look at the situation, and the reality of it. We don’t look at tragedy as
being good but if we look into Gods’ word we will see that because of trials
and tribulation, people and nations can be changed.

Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them
that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

God’s work says that ALL things work for good to those who love God, for
those who are the called according to His purpose. Many times bad things
have happened, to a lot of people, but God took those bad things and turned
them into good things. We must remember that if we serve God He will do
that for us but if we don’t serve Him we are left out in the cold to try and
handle things on our own. I sure don’t want to have to handle those bad
times; I want God to do that. He can take those bad times and make them be
for our “GREATER GOOD”.

Hebrews 12:5-11 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh

unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the
Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: For whom the Lord loveth he
chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. If ye endure
chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the
father chasteneth not? But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are
partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. Furthermore we have had
fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall
we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? For
they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for
our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. Now no chastening for
the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it
yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised
thereby.

In those times when we are going through chastisement we can’t see how it
could be for our “GREATER GOOD” but it is. God only chastises those
who He loves so if you have ever been through chastisement then be
thankful that you are loved. If we learn anything from being chastised then
we are making progress, but if we don’t learn then we will have to go
through it again, hopefully we will “get it” and be better for it.

There is now and there will be trying times for the Church, for God’s people.
Those times will be for “THE GREATER GOOD” and we must realize that.
My question is what will it take for people’s eyes to be opened to what the
real reason is that we, the Church, and we, the United States of America are
going through all of this tribulation? Only God knows what it will take. But
whatever happens will be for “THE GREATER GOOD”.

When a child gets a spanking or a time out [which is more popular today]
there is no way that you can convince them that it is for their “GOOD” or
that they will thank you someday for the correction that they got during their
days of growing up. You wouldn’t be able to convince God’s people or the
world that the times of trouble and trials are for their “GREATER GOOD”
either but nevertheless…….it is.
