 Introduction

Today, more than ever, the role of educational technology in teaching is of great importance
because of the use of information and communication technologies. Learning styles are changing
and teachers need to adapt their teaching styles accordingly. Today’s generation of students are
growing up in a digital world. Using digital devices is a huge part of their everyday experience out
of school. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of using computer technology on the
teaching English language as a second language. Nowadays almost all language classes use
techonolgy. While teaching a language we incorporate various forms of techonolgy to support their
teaching, engage students in the learning process and also conect their classrooms with other
countries to exchange their culture, their languge etc

 Research Aims

The research aims of this study is to know the role of using modern techonlogy in teaching English
as a second language, espacially I will try finding out how the Albanian students ages 14 -17 years
old use the techonology to teach English as a Second Language.

 The major objectives of this study

The major objectives of this study are :

- To know how technolgy support teaching English as a Second Languge in the classroom

- To present the perception of teachers and Albanian students about the use of technology to
support English teaching
- Identify a series of benefits while using technology to teach English as a Second Language.

 Research Questions/Hypothesis

Hypotheses:

- The use of technology has been successful and beneficial in education, especially for those
students who are teaching English as a Second Language
- The use of techonolgy offers many opportunities for Albanian students to learn the language
by their own using internet.
- The use of technology can increase interaction in the classroom

Research Question:

1. How can technology be used to increase the successful in teaching English as a Second
Language ?

 Research Design and Methodology;

The research will consist of the following chapters

Chapter 1. Introduction - will be a brief description of the way of teaching English as a second
language. This chapter also will present the statment of the problem, purpose of the study, research
question and hypothesis .

Chapter 2. Literature Review – Many schools in our country use techonlogy to enhance
student to learn a second language, tools such as Internet access, email, interactive

whiteboards, laptop computers, projectors and other software which they need depend on
curriculum. In addition mire and more homes, schools and business offices have computers
and Internet access. Are computers having a positive influence on the teaching a language
in our country, are there differences between schools. In this chapet I will present a case
study analyzing the use of techonology in The Cambridge School in teaching English as a
second language.
Chapter 3. Methodology - will describe the methodology used in this master thesis. The use
of technology will help me with the findings of the research, and of course to answers the
research question and prove that hypothesis are true or false. My research study follows a
qualitative research methodology, as my main objective was to gain a deep understanding of how
technology can be used to teach a a second language. My research will involve a literature review
about how technology is used in the language classroom. The information gathered came from
different sources. Considering that my thesis requires an amount of bibliographic research, I
will be consulting a number of different books, articles, master or doctoral thesis most of
which are obtained online or pdf form. After the literature review was completed, I will
make a questionnaire for students and teachers to understand their approaches to teach
English as a Second Language.

Chapter 4. Discussion- this chapter will discuss the findings of the research. In this chapter
will be discussed a questionnaire which will be completed from students range from 14 to
17 years old.

Chapter 5. Summary and Recommendations – this chapter will analyse the research
question and the final findings of the study , and also there will be some recommendations
about the use of technology in teaching English as a Second Language.

 Expected Results;

The expected results are:

1. that technology make changes in student grades, motivation and attendance;

2. that all schools and students should benefit from the use of technology particular those who
are teaching languages
3. students will acquire English as a Second Language effectively throug technology without
interaction from a qualified language teacher

 Summary;

The main focus of the thesis is to know the role of technology in teaching English as e Second
Language, to know the way how students use it to teach a language. Due to the large use of
technology in the world in which we live, the use of technology in teaching and learning is essential
if we are to make a lasting impact on how students learn. The use of technology will become an
even bigger priority in schools. Technology causes students to be more engaged; thus, students
often retain more information about English language. students and adults are using technology on a
daily basis to communicate, get information in multiple ways. The prevalent daily use of technology
in people’s lives overall makes the use of technology very relevant to the students and provides a
connection that will greatly benefit student learning. Technology is a tool. It is the best tool to learn
new languages easy and fast.

 Conclusion;

There is so much to do with technology in the classroom in every single subject. The Internet is a
wonderful teaching tool when used correctly. Students can research just about everything. Using
technology helps learning a foreign language quickly and easily using the various computer

applications. If we compare the way of learning a language before we can find many differences.
Every type of language teaching has had its own technologies to support it.
Technology contributes to student motivation, higher order thinking, and mastery of basic skills.
Students respond more to real communication as opposed to the more structured kind in a
classroom, feeling more relaxed and engaged, and being more willing to take risks with their new
language. Foreign language teachers have a specific niche: Their job is to teach students a whole
new language, including the nuanced rules of grammar and cultural norms. Computers,
smartphones, tablets, the internet, apps, and websites are all around us and it is a rare day when a
student or teacher does use at least one of these technology tools to learn or teach a language.
By analysing the data of the research, we hope to reach some conclusions that would satisfy our
curiousity.
