MBA-2010
Contents:
1. Introduction
3. Benefits to Students
4. Daily Diary
6. Evaluation by Industry
8. Annexures:
IV: List of the students with the details of organizations for their Summer
Training.
2. NEED AND OBJECTIVES: The need for the industrial training of the students is to
make them aware of the work culture of an enterprise along with understanding of the
resources available, processes and other modes of operations. Providing industrial
training vis-à-vis hands-on experience is a must to mould an MBA student to a full-
fledged professional. The main objectives of practical training for the students are:
i) To acquaint them with the actual work environment and to get them
exposed to the latest technological developments / advancements
related to their work
ii) To make them understand the importance of time and money, team work
and discipline.
iii) To inculcate a sense of responsibility among them.
iv) To familiarize them with resources, processes, the psychology of personnel
and develop a favorable and positive attitude towards work
v) To provide hands-on experience.
vi) To make them understand the social, economic and administrative aspects
that affects the working of an organization.
vii) To explore and show case the talent of summer trainees for future hiring by
the corporates.
3. BENEFITS TO STUDENTS: The practical training will help the students to acquire
adequate technical know-how and they will have first hand information of the corporate
environment, which cannot be simulated in an institution. It is not possible for any
institution to provide all types of processes, equipment and other resources that are used
in various industries. The practical training provides an opportunity to students to get an
exposure to business processes, relevant technology and work ethics. This results in
better employment opportunities for students and helps them to fine-tune their analytical
approach to solve problems. The likely benefits for the students are listed below:
i) Practical knowledge of their disciplines acquired through the planned
processes, which are an integral part of the educational process.
ii) Becoming awareness of strengths and weaknesses and personal
characteristics and work attitudes, which are gained informally through
regular contact with supervisors and fellow workers, and formally through
the use of the employer evaluation forms, on the job visits and on return to
the institute by interviews with coordinators. This awareness can lead to
significant personal and professional development.
iii) Better career decisions result from frequent and more extensive exposure to
the work environment.
iv) Communication skills are honed through the medium of the work
requirements, which accentuates the awareness of real life situations and
responsibilities.
v) Greater understanding of concepts by relating theory and practical
application inherent in the work / study sequence.
vi) Self-development, maturity and ability to manage self are enhanced further
by the necessity for many students to live away from home during the work
terms and to adjust to frequent changes.
vii) It allows working on one’s ability for problem definition and solution
seeking to enhance performance in a realistic job environment.
viii) It improves overall employability of the trainee.
ix) It makes students aware of latest industrial and business practices.
x) It helps easy transition of student into an employment situation
xi) It enhances vocational expertise.
xii) It fosters the interpersonal work relationship and develops skills for human
relationships among students.
5. DAILY DIARY: While on industrial training the students are required to maintain a
diary recording the day-to-day account of the work done, relevant observations, impressions,
learning and the information that they gather. The student has to get it signed every week
from the Corporate Mentor. The daily diary along with the project report will be evaluated on
the basis of:
(a) Regularity of maintenance
(b) Adequacy and quality of information recorded
(c) Overall presentation
(d) Systematic recording techniques etc.
8. SIGNIFICANCE OF PROJECT: The project has 200 marks and this is very significant
in your final grade and results. Hence it should be taken very seriously. The Project
Guide and Corporate Mentor may in future also have recommendation and assessment.
Hence keeping them informed and taking their guidance should be borne in mind.
9. GENERAL DIRECTIONS TO THE STUDENTS: Students are advised to take the training
very seriously and follow the under mentioned instructions. The final placements of the students
depend a great deal on their performance during the summer training.
b. They should be in regular contact and keep their Faculty Guides well informed
about the status of the project. They must reply promptly to all the phone calls/
emails send by the Institute. They should report in person to their Faculty Guide
about the “Mid-Term Review” sometime in 4-5th week as
promulgated/communicated.
e. A copy of the project report must be submitted to the Corporate Mentor well in
time and has to be approved by him/her before taking the final print or binding.
f. Extension for the completion of summer training beyond 31st July, 2010 may be
permitted, only in special cases with prior approval from the Institute.
h. Should you require any clarification or assistance, I would be glad to get in touch
with you just as my colleagues Ms. Poonam Chaudhary (0124-4750518, Mob.
9818250760, poonam.chaudhary@aitgurgaon.org and Mr. Rajeev Madan

j. These guidelines have been revised with the experience gained from students
doing Summer-Training during 2008 and 2009 and hence that knowledge has
been added to enhance the benefits to students of these Guidelines.
The organization where a student would be undergoing summer training has shown a kind
gesture to provide this opportunity. So a student must show sufficient interest towards work and
make every effort to learn. The system, traditions and culture prevalent in the organization are to
be followed strictly and a student has to adapt to it. The competency shown by a student may lead
to a future career in the same organization; so, he/she should try to make a strong positive
impression. Students are advised to observe the following:
1) To be punctual and regular
2) To behave in a responsible way
3) To respect their seniors
4) To maintain dignity and conduct that brings good name to the
institution.
NOTE: Summer Training report duly completed in all respects should be deposited to the
Institute within one month of completion of Training, (latest by 31st August, 2010) of completion
of the training.
Any indiscipline/misconduct on part of the trainee will be seriously viewed and an appropriate
action will be taken as per the rules of the Institute.
If the training of a student is terminated or he/she is not allowed to continue the training by the
industry for the reasons of misconduct or indiscipline, such student will be considered as having
not completed his / her training successfully.
