NATIONAL COORDINATING COMMITTEE ON
FOOD AND NUTRITION (NCCFN)
The Terms of Reference of the NCCFN are:
• Ensure that the NPANM is implemented, monitored and evaluated with the involvement and
participation of all relev ant sectors
• Set up various Technical Working Groups, and to oversee and coordinate their activities
• Review available information on nutrition problems in the country and identify measures to combat
them, to be implemented by the different sectors within the framework of their policies and plan of
action.
• Review nutrition and nutrition-related measures implemented by different sectors of the government
and NGOs, and identify areas where duplication has taken place or which have not been touched by
any sectoral measures.
• Identify government sectors or other organisations which are competent to undertake corrective
measures in urgent or emergency situations such as natural or man-made disasters.
• Develop an overall, time-bound plan of work at national level, estimate the financial and technical
requirements for such a plan and obtain the necessary approval of the sectors concerned and of the
central planning body.
• Initiate the development of a multi sectoral national food and nutrition policy. (viii) Procure the
necessary resources and government support to implement

FOOD AND NUTRITION (NCCFN)
FOUR Technical Working Groups (TWGs) were
initially formed to assist the NCCFNM to address its
objectives:
• Training
• Research
• Development of Malaysian Dietary
Guidelines (including RNIs)
• Nutrition Policy
NCCFNM- Each Technical Working Group (TWG) comprises members
from agencies with nutrition activities including universities, the
private sector, government and non-government organisations.

• Improving household food security
• Protecting consumers through improved food quality and safety
• Preventing and managing infectious diseases
• Promoting breastfeeding (hosp. breastfeeding initiatives, 6 mths exclusive breastfeeding, etc.)
• Caring for the socioeconomically disadvantaged and nutritionally vulnerable
• Preventing and controlling specific micronutrient deficiencies
• Promoting appropriate diets and healthy lifestyles
• Assessing, analysing and monitoring nutrition situations
