We should follow the Message of Bhagvad Gita, means it is necessary to put it in

practice. We look ourselves in mirror and if there is any black dot etc, appear on
our face, then we quickly clean it. Mirror shows us, what is absolute truth, so we
instantly correct ourselves. Mirror, is for us to know, how I am and then to
quickly correct ourselves. Same way, Bhagvad Gita is like a mirror. We should
understand its essence, put it in practice and correct ourselves quickly. Bhagvad
Gita is a scripture; it’s like a manual for us. Manual to manage, body, mind and
intellect, which are our instruments. With the use of this manual, we have to see
how we can improve the quality of our instrument. Quality will give efficiency. If
life has to be qualitative, then instrument also should have best quality.

Eating is not important, what we eat is important. If body has to be fit and fine,
then we need to have quality food and exercise regularly. Mind is a flow of
thoughts. Mind is a subtle instrument. Subtle means, which we cannot see and
gross, is that, which we can see and touch. We can feel, if mind is disturbed.
When mind gets disturbed? If we were expecting something and it does not
happen as per our expectation, then mind gets disturbed. Mind brings negative
thoughts. And a negative thought, drains energy. With negative energy, one burns
from inside and then reacts badly. Intellect is a seat of decision. It is a
discriminative power. It has quality to decide. If mind is disturbed, intellect cannot
work. So to avoid it, one immediately has to switch to prayers and cool down the
mind. So once we have right knowledge, then we get efficiency, and our
potentiality increases. Do not see the effect. Go after the cause. Eg. When we get
fever, to find the cause, we do blood test and then we come to know about
disease. So when we get angry, we should know, anger is an effect not a cause.
We have to pause, slow down and see, why we are angry. Find the cause of anger,
rather than reacting. It is possible that, we are angry because we didn’t get what
we want. We have to understand, every time, we will not get what we want. So
why should we get disturbed, if I have not got it today? One who is peaceful, his
quality of mind is different. Quality will bring efficiency. Then standard of life in
terms of peace and harmony will also go up.

Chapter 3 – It speaks on karma-yoga.

What is duty? Duty means Dharma. What is Dharma? There are 3 levels of
Dharma.

1st Level – Our role – What role are we playing in our life at this moment of time.
When role changes, our duty too changes. We play different roles at different
time in our life. ( Eg, role of father at home when we are with child, husband
when we are with wife, manager etc, when we are in office etc). We cannot mix
up the roles. Whoever mixes up his role and duty, will only incur the sorrow. Eg.
For us, we cannot expect same task when Mother cooking food for us and on
other part wife cooking food for us.

2nd Level – We all are human beings and we are the supreme creature of whole
universe. (Reason is we have body, mind and intellect – all with enormous power).
It’s our duty to protect all those who are weaker than us. It’s wrong from our side
to kill them and eat them. ( Think correctly. If we understand the principle then
we will follow effortlessly)

3rd Level – Every object has its identity. If there is no identity, that means it does
not exists. Same way if human beings, don’t follow the path of human beings,
then can we call them the human beings? Identity of human being is “vivek”
(discrimination is the most important identity of human being). Discrimination will
come only with knowledge. With knowledge we will know what is good and what
is bad. During war, if Arjuna had ran away, he would have, had bad name and
secondly people would have lost faith in any warrior, since it’s the duty of warrior
to protect them. So we should understand, let situation be anything, we should
not run away from situation. We should face it, because we have to take the
challenge and lead our life. How to face a situation is the karma-yoga. When we
face the situation and bring the right path in front of us, then we become stronger
and stronger. And if we run away, then we become weaker and weaker and bitter
and bitter. Bitterness in mind is a symptom of weakness. When there are
arguments in house, we catch one word and brood over that word again and
again, thinking why that word is said or used against me etc. And then
automatically, bitterness is built up. Instead of it, we should forget it and think
what is good and keep thinking over it. So when we think over what is good, again
and again, then it is contemplation. This will show in our expressions. Vedanta, we
need to understand, get convinced and then can put in practice and follow it
convincingly. One, who is wise, ends the fight and one who is “otherwise”
continues to fight.

Mind can go round and round, only around known things. Whatever Experience,
which we get, is called impressions. That happens within your mind. (Swami
Sivananda was the first Guru of Gurudev, Swami Chinmayananda, this we have
seen in movie quest and now will remain permanently in our mind, so impression
is formed)

Impression

Positive – This are those impressions, which will keep us on the path of progress.

Negative – This are those impression which will keep us on the path of depression.

During day today life, if our decision fails, then we immediately will get negative
impression. If impression of mind and intellect is too deep, then it is called
“Vasanas”. E.g. Due to today’s lifestyle, people surf various internet sites and
creates good or bad impressions.

With intuition of intellect, we can find out things which we don’t know.

Earlier days, Karma in karma-yoga was understood by people as rituals. (People

used to call them as karma-kandis means, who does yagna, aarti, puja etc). But
Gurudev says, if you are karma-kandi and you have great faith, then that can also
purify your mind.

Impurity of mind – Anger , Jealousy etc.

Most critical negativities of life are Anger, Hatred, Jealousy and Greed.

Positivities are Love, compassion, Honesty, Faith, patience, Sacrifice and respect
etc.

If one has more negativity, then his life will be always depressed and the only
solution for him is to substitute negativity with positivity. One has to understand
that, if you need something, you have to lose something. If you want peace in life,
then you have to leave negativity and get positivity. Earlier, people have narrow
thinking about spirituality. The view was, it was restricted only to higher class
people. Only certain classes of people were entitled to read the scriptures.
Gurudev, came and changed everything. He brought Bhagavad-Gita to everyone’s
doorstep. He brought Sanyasi’s close to people. They started leaving with people,
eating with people. (That’s the reason today chinmaya mission has more than 400
centers and innumerable devotees. Do not ever cry, stating, why this difficult
situation is to me and how can I handle it, since situation will never change, we
have to change ourselves. We have to make ourselves more stronger. Eg. Girl
knew, she cannot get into medicine, so she took 3 years back and finally made it
to medicine.

We have our own imagination about the situation in life and experiences. This
imagination of mind depends on Knowledge. If my knowledge is zero then my
imagination is delusory. If my knowledge is perfect then my imagination will be
perfect/ true. We do not fail because of someone’s actions but because of our
own weakness. Delusion is that, when our mind and intellect does not take right
decision, where it is most required. ( Yatha drusti, tatha srusti). Do not pamper
your imagination. Mind only thinks from our own standpoint. If we have to be
happy, we should remove this stand point “ self- centeredness”. Make our mind
more broader and wider. When we listen to scripture, our mind will say this is not
good by our understanding and we should not follow it. But we have to tell the
mind, that I am going to listen to it and follow it , since it is the truth, and truth
does not change. Change is required in me and I have to change. My mind has to
change.

So in this third chapter, Bhagwan is telling Arjuna to Act with discrimination..

First most important thing is , while we live in this world, we have to do actions.
When we do actions, choice of action is with us. We have to do positive action
and be happy. If we do negative actions, we will have sorrow and unhappiness.

Karma-Yoga is positivity and progress.

09/02/15

We have with us three instruments – Body, mind and intellect. Whatever happens
to body, we are responsible for it. We should understand, if our body becomes fat,
means we are eating wrong food. Whatever happens to body, that means we
should understand, we are not taking proper care of the body. Mind is flow of
thought. Flow of thoughts depends upon whatever we keep experiencing –
impressions of the mind and intellect. Eg. If we see horror movie, late night show
and then when we come home and if we hear any sound, we will get scared, that
is due to impression which we have created in mind after watching the movie. We
should control, what impression we should carry and what we should not.
Decisions depend on right knowledge. Intellect should have right knowledge then
only we can have right decision. When we look into mirror, and if we find dirt on
face, then we correct our self( clean the face), means we need correction on our
self and not on mirror, same way, what is being told in scriptures/Bhagavad-Gita,
if we are not following, then we should contemplate on it and improve on it.

Shloka 1

In this Shloka Arjuna is asking bhagwan, if knowledge is superior to action, then

why he should do any action?

Shloka 2
Arjuna tells bhagwan, that his mind is confused, whether should he select path of
knowledge or Path of action, because number of times he says, you have
( bhagwan) said that knowledge is supreme. So Arjuna asks bhagwan, don’t tell
me what is beneficial to world but tell me what is beneficial to me, to reach the
highest. There are two things which are important, one is sukhkari( pleasurable)
and other is Hitakari( beneficial). Pleasurable give temporary happiness but may
not be beneficial. What is beneficial is little tough or difficult and not pleasurable
but will give best forever. E.g. getting up at 4.30am is beneficial and getting up at
7am is pleasurable, so which will give long term benefit? So Arjuna ask Bhagwan,
please tell me what is Hitakari for me. E.g. eating outside is short term pleasure
since in long term we will have lot of health issues. Also we will spend so much
money, that with that money, we can eat food at home for minimum 10-15 days
and it will also give us good health. Immature people will always take Sukhkari
Marg. They cannot understand Hitakari marg. ( eg. Of coming to class on Monday).
One who understands what is beneficial to him and he never leaves it anytime
whatever be the circumstances, then that is called maturity. ( eg. For kids since
they are immature, we have to tell them to study stating there is exam).
Whenever tough situations come in our life, we should see what is beneficial to us
and then decide. To gain something, we should lose( give up) something. To reach
higher level we have to leave lower level. If we want Good health, one has to
leave many things. Every one’s health is very important and no one will take care
of our health. We have to take care of our own health, eg, in party one eat
batatawada because of he was deprived of it by his wife at home due to health
issue. But he doesn’t realize that wife was depriving him of it to take care of him,
since she loves him. But he eats it at party and spoils his own health. We have to
decide in our life, what should we select for us in life and we have the choice and
only human beings have this choice.

Shloka 3
Bhagwan Uvach means bhagwan bol raha hai. Why it is said bhagwan uvach?
Reason being this should not create confusion in minds of bhakt of shiva/ganpati
etc since if it was said, Lord Krishna says or said, then they would have ignored it.
Three aspects of Bhagwan are - Bhagwan is omniscient – All knower – He knows
everything, He is Omnipotent – All mighty and He is omnipresent – All pervading.

We in our mind always have confusion that bhagwan is not here but he is at other
place( like temple etc). With this knowledge we should remove this confusion, as
now we know bhagwan is everywhere. So what can we hide from Bhagwan?
Many times, we feel in our mind, only I know and nobody knows. But we should
know now that bhagwan knows everything. So we should remove this ignorance
that only I know. Bhagwan does, right thing, at right time, so there is no need for
us to complain to bhagwan ( eg. We many times complain to bhagwan, how bad
politician are and they still enjoy and he doesn’t do anything and does only to us.
Many times we feel why only Dhukh given to me and not to others.. etc ) This are
the questions we get and we should now know all this questions are useless. God
knows everything , every moment.

Other aspect of God is, God has 6 apsects.

1. Aishwarya – There were never anything, anytime, has anything incomplete.

So it is absolutely complete.
2. Dharma – Whatever bhagwan does is dharma. We should not think in our
mind or question, why bhagwan killed Vali from behind or why bhagwan
has asked Sita to take agnipariksha?
3. Shri – Bhagwan’s wife is Laxmi. We should never think that we give to
bhagwan anything since everything Bhagwan has. He only has given us all
the things in life, so we should tell bhagwan, this is what we are offering to
you( arpan kar raha hu) , which is yours and you have given to me, please
accept it.
4. Success – Where there is Bhagwan, there is success. If person has no
money but his heart( man) is clean, he is successful. But if we have lot of
money but if we are crock, then there is no peace and success. God lives
where there is pavitrata. Rest all things come and go. Eg. Sanjay has told
dhrutrashtra about what he has seen with his divya dhrushti, heard what
bhagwan has told him and heard everything and has told this to
dhrutrashtra, but dhrutrashtra never understood. So if someone is not
understanding, then we need not be sorrowful or depressed, we have to do
what we can do. To keep our mind peaceful is in our hand. Bhagwan is
there where there is purity, auspiciousness , holi etc.
5. Muktah – Bhagwan is always mukt, he has no bondage.
6. Vairagya – He has no attachment.( aasakti)

These 6 qualities who get are bhagwan swaroop. Eg. Bhagwan Aadi
Shankaracharya. He has attained this 6 qualities hence He is called bhagwan.

Not attached to anything. This is what Bhagwan is telling us who is the power of
universe and we should not take this advice casually. We should take it most
caringly( seriously). Bhagwan says two paths are available, path of knowledge and
path of karma. They are complimentary to each other, means sathidar. Means
one can’t be without other.

1. Karma yog – to make our mind pure. Selfless action. – Result of it is, lot of
impression which are created in mind and intellect and which are not
conducive, can be removed to reach ultimate truth.
2. Depends on our temperament – ( state of mind) One can select one of the
path. No path is superior or inferior. Most of people have very active state
of mind hence they have to select field, where there is lot of action because
they cannot remain seated at one place.

Arjuna is man of action ( warrior) so he has to take path of action.

16/02
Summary – Shloka 1 – Arjuna asks bhagwan why do we do action, when you talk
of knowledge?

Shloka 2 – Arjuna says my mind is disturbed for what path to take up.

Shloka 3 – There are always two paths- path of action and path of knowledge
from ancient time.

Shloka 4

We all keep doing action, why do Lord says we should do any action perfectly?
Action itself is a great source of joy. One who does not enjoy the action, how can
he enjoy the result? One who does action with 100% perfection enjoys the action
( eg. When you put 100% in cooking food). There is always chance of
improvement in every action ( eg. Brushing teeth is boring activity which we do
every day. But if you do it right intelligently then it will be perfect and we will
enjoy it). Once action becomes mechanical then there is no joy. Human mind can
give n number of variation, then we should ask ourself, am I doing the action with
right improvement(newness is the beauty of our life)?. We need newness for
ourself also. Eg. When we do puja, we clean our house because we need
something new for the Lord. We have to ask the question every time “Am I really
trying my best in every action? “

What is called perfection? when you do action and do not take credit of action, it
is called perfection. Action itself is Good and subtler form is not taking any credit
of action. One has to do the action, one has to reach to perfection and action
done repeatedly , mechanically, then it becomes a boring job. One has to create
the joy by getting newness in life. Some action done with right attitude becomes
the source of joy.

Shloka 5
We all have to act helplessly. Means even though if we feel , we do not want to,
still we have to act. Eg. Breathing, seeing. Actions are done by prakriti( Maya). It’s
a power of bhagwan( creative power) is called Maya. Content of prakriti is, it is
made up of 3 gunas. Satva, Rajas and Tamsika guna’s.

Satva Guna – Steadiness, very punctual, very helping in nature, everything one
does with perfection and n number of good qualities.

Rajsik Guna – Chanchal ( restlessness), very competitive, arrogant, very

vindictive( revengeful), administrative( Leadership quality)

Tamasika Guna – Laziness, extremely casual, he enjoys when he hurts someone,

enemitive, violent, ignorant.

And mixing of all three gunas, is all of us and one Guna is prominent. Lord Says -
Actions are done by all this gunas and not by us ( Guna means prakriti) .

Eg. In the presence of sun, plant does action of photosynthesis. Can plant say , I
am only doing action? No, because of energy from sun, plant does the actions.

Actions are all done by prakriti and not consciousness at all ( In Car, fuel is
consciousness, Driver is mind and intellect . Fuel supply right energy and driver
takes it where it is required ). If we increase Satva Guna, automatically Rajas or
Tamsika Guna will go down. Satva Guna increases by following all righteous
methods. If we take short cut, then we will become tamsika.

Shloka 6
Who is hypocrite? One who from inside thinks that he need something and
outside, he shows, he doesn’t want anything. There are many desires in mind and
he says let’s leave desire. Principle is, be straight forward. Do right action as per
your requirement, with righteousness and get it fulfilled. Getting desires fulfilled
is not wrong but do it with righteousness. We have to leave craving for money,
we have to put right efforts, with right understanding and earn money as much as
we can and with this money with righteousness one can fulfill his desires. Let us
be honest to ourself. If there is something in our mind, do right action and fulfill it.
It is better not to wear the mask and be absolutely what we are. If there is a mask,
then we are fooling ourself. Then stress will develop, the mind will not develop
and then there will be violence. So if we do not wear the mask, then we are true
to ourself. Then we will know who/what am I and we will have self-confidence.
Once we know who am I, and what can I do, then there is no fear in mind.
Honesty is the best policy. Just be what you are , whatever you were supposed to
get, you will get it.

23/02

Shloka 7

How one can excel is action?( Karma- Action. Yoga – Attitude). Attitude behind
the action is most important part in karma yoga. One who is doing the action,
without any thought of attachment, then this person will really excel in action.
Attachment is not for one action. It is the attitude. If someone is very sentimental,
then it becomes his nature. If anyone says something to him, then he feels very
bad. Do we have nature of getting attached to everything? Eg. Suppose if we want
to enter the room, sometimes we get scared, even though we know main door is
closed and nobody could have entered the room. This is nature of attachment.
Attachment to one’s talking. One gets attached to something or other and then it
becomes a habit . There are n numbers of way of doing action so we should find
new ways of doing action for the sake of betterment. For that we have to take a
challenge. Any situation is a new situation. Then we try to find out if such
situation had come in our life in the past and if no, then we feel it is difficult
because we don’t have past experience. But we should do it new way,
innovatively and we should not look at past experience and we should not feel
weak for handling this situation in new way. How do we develop attachment and
what is the effect of it? Mind has a nature , it works on likes and dislikes. When
something we like, we repeat it. Then mind says repeat again and then we form
the habit and then it becomes a routine , then it becomes compulsion. After
compulsion person becomes a slave , then one who becomes slave does not have
freedom from action. No existence remains. When we fall in this category , then
without getting it, we cannot do the action. Food, if we don’t like it , then ask
question, is food bad? No. Then you will like it. We have to increase our duty
consciousness ( eg of few subject which we don’t like). We should not fear about
anything. Fear is because of attachment and possessiveness. If we can remove
this, then there will be pure action with pure mind. By right knowledge we have
to remove the attachment and do the action as duty. In duty there is no reward.
Duty we have to do with best of our capacity even though anyone says anything
to me. ( Kartavya Dakhshtha- Duty consciousness)

Shloka 8

If I don’t have to get attached to the action then why should I do the action? No
one can drop the action in whole life, Lord says.

Eating food, cleaning the body, breathing etc, these actions we cannot remove or
stop doing. These actions we have to do. We have no choice.
Mind – Meditation – Awareness, that whatever I take inside we should check
( breath).

Intellect – We should have right knowledge. There is no limitation of right

knowledge and we have to keep updating ourself. Sometimes we give it up and
that is not the right way.

Better than any action,( superior to action) is an action. Action cannot be

completed, unless and until we do the action. Impressions get formed, when we
keep seeing it. When someone says something to us , we catch that word and
brood over it, again and again and form impression. Instead we should ignore it
and shift our mind away from it. We should take up the action, by deciding our
duty. We should know our capacity and then take it up. One who can think one’s
own way and take up the action by considering everything then it is called
maturity.

02/03

Shloka 9

Subject of verse – Principle is who remains in bondage and who is having freedom.

Who remains in bondage – One who does karma, other than sacrifice. Who is
enjoying freedom – one who is doing karma, with the attitude of sacrifice. Action
is source of freedom. Some action is source of bondage because of attitude,
behind the action. When we do action selflessly, then there is no attachment
involved. When we do action selfishly, then there is bondage. When we do action
thinking that I have taken this as my duty, then I become a duty conscious and
then there is no bondage. When actions are done with likes and dislikes, then
there is bondage. Dislike eg I don’t like to study.
Goal is an inspiration. Goal you need not to think continuously. Set the Goal and
then do the action. When you continuously think of Goal, energy will be drained.
When can we enjoy action? When we are 100% into the action. When we dislike
the activity and we don’t think of past and future, then we don’t enjoy the
action( eg. Cooking some doesn’t like). Freedom we can expect in our duty. When
we have duty in hand, we have no choice. Action other than sacrifice ( we give
sacrifice of our like and dislike). Freedom is a choice. One who applies the right
knowledge, at right time, he gets freedom. Bondage is of which nature? It is the
form of thought. It is very subtle. Dislike/Like thought binds us. Means it makes
compulsion in life. All addiction are bondages.

16/03

Shloka 10

How we can make in our life, every action is free? How the action can remain in
that level, where no one can remain in bondage? Eg. Lot of sacrifices is required
when you need Good marks. Negativity of the mind will not allow us to reach to
the height of pinnacle?( Growth). Jealousy of other colleague ( insecurity etc)
Negativity is bad since it drains our productive positive energy. So we have lack of
energy to focus. Lord says our negative energy should be bear minimum.
( zero)We should take pause and find out what is there in our mind and work on it.
Any achievement in this whole universe, if we want, then we have to make some
sacrifice. One thing which is there in one state, has to change and go into other
state, is called sacrifice. If we have to grow then we have to learn to leave
immaturity. Then only we can grow. If we have to love, then we have to give our
best without complains. ( my lower nature, that is complaining nature, we have to
give up). To achieve a higher, we have to leave lower. Karma- yoga is thinking
correctly every moment. Unless and until great sacrifice is done, nothing great
can be achieved.

Shloka 11

Who can attain the highest Good? Why should I attain the highest Good? Because
highest Good only can be attained in Human birth. Lord Says you give me your
best and I will give my best to you. In ignorance we demand the best but we don’t
give the best. We say I want best wife/husband, but we never ask our self, are we
the best husband/wife? If we cannot do best, how can we expect the best? Best
in all aspect is required right from the beginning when we know the world.
( means when we start understanding what is what, what is right and what is
wrong). Repercussion of what we have done in the past , Lord give it to us now.
Not knowing, we ask to Lord, why me?

Action has three fruits.

1. Immediate – Action is done today and we get the result immediate. Eg. We
drink water now n thirst is gone immediately.
2. Intermediate – Action is done today and we get result after few months eg.
Exam results.
3. Long term – Action is done today and result is after many years. Eg. If we
plant mango tree today, we get mango after many years.

N number of karma we do, if fruits come after body is fallen down, then merit
goes into sanchita karma( bank balance). If we demand the best , I have to give
my best. How do we understand that we have given the best? There is no
incompleteness in our mind. ( giving my best as per my capacity). To pamper our
own weakness, is bad habit, which one should leave. We have to work, very hard
to remove our weakness. One has to contemplate and find out what is my
weakness. Complaining something, is negative approach of the mind. Suggesting
something, is a positive approach.

23/03/15

Shloka 12

In this shloka Lord ask, who is this thief?

The one who takes the best and don’t give the best is the real thief. What best we
got in human birth? Intellect. Intellect which we have, can discriminate what is
Good and what is bad. We have the quality of senses – like senses of human
beings are supreme in nature – Because we have so called vertebral column, we
can walk. We got the best of best – Nature. Beauty of seasons. We got shastra,
Guru-parmpara etc. But we become so narrow minded and we just think of our
self. So we should open up our mind and start giving. Start giving your love out of
compassion. We love out of condition. Love should be unconditional with
compassion. We should focus on life, on what I have and not on, what I don’t
have. We pamper our own little sacrifice, without realizing, bhagwan has given us
and giving us unlimited things. We have small vision. When we are connected to
vision of totality, then we will drop our swarth. We should grow from narrowness
to broader and broader thinking. I got so much, so let us start giving. One who is
not ready to act selflessly is called thief. Quality of bliss, one enjoys, once you act
selflessly. When you are giving, you are totally contented. Our focus should be on,
what I should do and what I have to do and should not think of, what people will
say. ( Jab jage to suvera)

30/03/15

Shloka 13
Who is sinner or thief? One who always demands the best and doesn’t give the
best. When we contemplate, we develop sense of gratitude. ( gratefulness,
feeling of gratitude) eg Many teachers have thought us from our childhood till
date. We can repay it by passing on this knowledge to someone else. There is no
limitation in giving. Before asking why this has happened, ask what we have done.
( Swamiji sang….itni Shakti de data……)

Arpan is done to the higher Altar, there we require to have devotion. Arpan is to
give with love. If we do not give and consume whatever we have/get than
bhagwan says we remain drowned in the Sin. ( we are consuming our own Sin).
When we have sufficient, our mind should grow , remain open to give. We should
give from whatever we have eg. Helping old person with love is also called giving.
Those who are sick, they need more love, so give them more love. We always
remember mother because she has given her love, when we were sick. Giving
place in a bus to old aged person , gives lot of satisfaction. Once we start giving,
then we will able to see how our mind gives us peace. ( Watch the movie “ pay it
forward”). How much time we kill? We don’t give our time to anyone and how
much time we waste, by not doing any productive or constructive things.

06/04/15

Shloka 14 and 15
When one puts his knowledge into practice, on his own, it is called wisdom. We
have to know from this, how this action is connected and what is the origin of
action. All beings( bird, human etc)( bhutani – those who have life)because of
food, all are here. That means, we are directly coming from food. If we remove
food from our life, can we live? No. Food is major part of our life. Food that we
eat, is grown by soil and only with rain, it is possible to grow. Hence food is
possible only because of rain( water). Rain comes because of sacrifice. Whatever
water is stored in earth, due to Heat, it is evaporated. So all water bodies takes
heat and evaporate the water. Heat is very Harsh, it indirectly tells us, that for
sacrifice, we have to take lot of hardship.

Vidhyarthi Chet , Tyajet Sukham !

Sukharthi Chet, Tyajet Vidya !!

If we are vidhyarthi, then we have to give up our comforts and if we are comfort
oriented, then we have to give up our studies, since whole energy will get
diverted towards seeking comfort. Knowledge, God gives to everyone, at right
time but to achieve the knowledge, is in our hands. Lack of achievement,( hard
work) is not there, hence we should realize, we don’t come first in class like the
one who has come first in class. ( means we are where we are and not first in class
like the one who has come first in class)

Rains comes from sacrifice of n number of things/items. Yagna brings the action.
Unless we sacrifice something, can we give happiness to anyone in this world? No.
We have to be good in our duty. We have to do the best. If we do our duty
perfectly, then heaven will be here only. Happiness comes by giving.( not asking)
Once you start giving the Happiness, automatically it will be transferred back to us.
Sacrifice is key of happiness. Sacrifice is a continuous process and never ending
process. He who is wise, doesn’t ask for sacrifice but gives Sacrifice, because wise
men understands other men’s happiness, is his happiness. One who demands
happiness is beggar of happiness and by begging one can never get true,
everlasting happiness.
When we do action with sacrifice, everyone gets touched by our action. Action
should be with the attitude of sacrifice ( There is emotion behind the action,
which is called attitude). When there is action, then that karma with right
emotions can only touch others heart. Action which has no meaning is called
chesta. Action which has no meaning, that action is useless. We should
understand sacrifice is coming directly from brahma akshar. Brahma which is
imperishable, knowledge is imperishable, akshar is also imperishable, bhagwan in
subtle form is also imperishable.

Summary of last class – shloka 14/15

We should give utmost respect to Food, since this is a basic factor of our life. We
are all aware of scarcity of water in various parts of our country hence as a
responsible human, we should use it carefully. This is called Gratitude. We should
understand importance of our parents in our life and hence we should respect
them. Mother and Fathers importance does not reduces at any age. First and
foremost, we should understand that this simple knowledge is important,
because otherwise we will take everything for granted. We need to understand
our presence is because of them( Parents). So we should have gratitude towards
them. The way we think about our parents and have gratitude towards them , we
also should think about everything in our life. ( eg food). How should we be
grateful to food? We should understand how many people strive hard for one
time meal. We should know, Food comes to us, when farmers sacrifices in farm.
Once we understand and know his( farmer’s) sacrifices, then only, we will value
the food. If we have capacity to understand about whole universe around us then
we will be sensitive to everything. If we know if someone is hurt by some word,
then we will be sensitive in not using that word again with him. When we
understand importance of that person in our life then we will be sensitive to him.
Knowledge makes the mind beautiful and ignorance makes the mind ugly. All our
things, if we keep fresh, then we feel beautiful. ( eg. Of using cleaned clothes).
Karma-Yoga is 24 hrs. We never think of sacrifices of our parents, sacrifices of our
soldiers on borders etc. Once we understand the importance of each and every
one or their contribution in our life, then we will be grateful to them. This is called
contemplation on everything around us. We should be grateful to everyone who
comes to us. And then we should think, Can I do my best to him? Let that person
be anyone, we should treat that person with utmost care and respect.

Shloka 16

This chakra( wheel of sacrifice) goes on in life, where so many people has done so
many sacrifices, and the one who does not care/understand it, he will only
become selfish and gratify once own senses( self-centered person). One who
continuously brooding over objects and does not understand sacrifice is selfish.
His birth is waste. He is wasting his life. Unless and until, we have the right
understanding and higher way of living, considering every one’s sacrifice in our
life , then our life is a waste. What is following? Following means knowing and
giving right importance to it. ( eg. Study – First we should know importance of
study and then we should do it). Study we have to do till we understand the
subject.

Shloka 17

People who understand the sacrifice in life, remains good forever. He is always
steady in each and every transaction. Our life always has ups and downs. When
we expect more than what we give( eg. Relation with parents) and if we do not
give, then there is imbalance. Suppose with friends , if we only dictate and don't
listen to them, then there is imbalance and then we will lose them. So in life we
should learn to give more and expect less, then our life will be good. So we have
to decide which life we want. Second view point is, bhagwan says we have to
understand that sacrifice means we have to sacrifice our ignorance. When we give
up our ignorance then we understand ourself, understand our true nature, true
Self. Then we will feel complete and we will be satisfied( trupt). Our
incompleteness in life is due to our ignorance. Person who has removed
ignorance has nothing more to gain in life. Then we will know our true nature,
Satchitanand.

Summary of topic under discussion

Who is following karma-yoga? The person who keeps doing action selflessly
follows karma-yoga and his mind becomes pure and purity gives him the peace.
More the pure mind, more is the peace. By following right path of karma-yoga,
one’s mind becomes pure. Negativity ( like anger, destructive thoughts etc) is
called impurity. Basic values like love, compassion, humility, sacrifice are called
purity. Person who has all basic values of life is a pure person. If we really love a
person we will never hurt the person whom we love. We will never utter bad
words. When we love someone or respect someone, then our words will
measure( means what type of words we use measures how much we love the
other person).

Shloka 18

If we want to excel in anything, then we have to learn to be independent. ( eg. For

student if he has to excel no one has to remind him that he has to
study).Independence gives great confidence. When we do something, many times
we will have situation which are tough. ( eg. If we go for booking ticket, many
times it may happen that we will not know the train number, but then we must
ask. Asking opens up mind). We are scared of asking. But once we become
independent then we will open up and we will ask.

How one goes into state of independence?

First Point – Accept the mistake and immediately correct the mistake ( overcome
the mistake). Person who can overtake his mistake quickly such person is a
successful person. Doing mistake is not big thing, everyone does mistakes. But
repeating mistake again and again is foolishness( murkhtha). Once person
become independent, he does not depend on anyone and take his own decisions.
Second point - Indecisiveness is a disease because such person cannot grow.
Person who doesn't take any decision is a failure because he doesn't take any
chance and he cannot learn. So how will he improve? Many times we just go on
postponing the work and then we develop stress. Eg. Suppose if we don't like one
subject, we just keep it aside, stating, we will learn it later and finally exam day
comes and then we develop stress.

Do not ever think that something will go wrong. Just think positive.

Doing everything correctly and with right attitude is Karma-yoga.

Shloka 19

A man attains Supreme. ( perfection in every action). How to become

extraordinary( supreme)? There are n number of people , who make mistakes
again and again. This is very bad quality of a person. Making mistake is fine but
repeating it, is not good. So we need to decide that when we do mistake and
repeat it, we will punish ourself. And we have to remind ourself that we want to
excel and be extra-ordinary.
What we have to do to be extra-ordinary? Do any action but do not get attached
to the action or don't do action with attachment. Action on its own is not good or
bad but attitude behind it makes it good or bad. Bhagwan tell us to improve our
attitude. We need to put in our mind that we want to be extra-ordinary and we
need to fix it. We have to decide it ourself. When we think positively, we can do it.
Over confidence is sign of ego. It comes, when we want to show that we are extra
smart. ( Like when we want to show-off).

Shloka 20

Bhagwan explains that, one has to take up action on his own, to reach to
perfection. One has to take initiative. One should know, what he has to do and
what he should not do. And when he decides to do, then quickly he has to do. Eg.
Suppose if we decide to do exercise, then we have to start it today, if we keep on
postponing, we will never able to do it. One who decides and then acts quickly is
called initiative. When one acts on his decision , then he reaches his Goal. First
important point is, one has to have knowledge to take the decision. And then we
have to act. We need to find out, where we are casual. Eg. Kids - todays studies,
they don't do it today, and then it gets piled up and then stress is created.

Topic of this shloka is, If we want to become perfect then we have to act now.

If we do not protect others, will others protect us? If we do not help others, will
others help us? Example given is of Janak Maharaj, who always used to help other
whenever it is required.

Shloka 21
Bhagwan says, first and foremost ask question to self. What is the standard of my
life? Standard means , am I independent? Am I fearless? Am I detached? Am I
sentimental?( negative standard) Am I healthy? This are few examples. There are
many standards.

We can also think, what is our professional Standard? Do we do professional

action with Dharma or Adharma?

What are our standard to give joy to the people?

We should understand that when we come in this world, there are many who
look at us. If we show our standard as low, and if they ( people around us)are of
age below us, then we can imagine, what will be their standard as they will be
watching us and setting their standard. So we should set extremely high standard
for us, in every aspect. Like, how we talk? how we work? Etc. We should
understand that we should become Good for ourself and not to show others.
Many times we say, why should we become Good? In this world, where there are
Good people? We should remove this thought from our mind. Path of perfection
is never ending phenomena. Because whatever we do, will be less than some or
other in this world. No one can say, he is the best. There is always a chance of
improvement.

When we do action, we should ask ourself, is this the best action? Here ,
knowledge helps us, to understand what is the best.

Gurudev used to say, first decide, in which field you want to grow. The find out,
who is the best in that field. Then plan out the journey, the art of reaching there
or art what the best person has. Then make action plan, that how much time we
will need to reach there or how much time we will get to reach there. Once you
reach their you will find someone else on top of it and then we have to raise our
standard again. If our mind has big/strong courage , then we will set a huge
standard. We can have example of Karna, who gave his Kavach kundal even
though he knew by giving that he will lose the battle.

Great inspiration for us is, we should keep very high standard for us and we
should strive to achieve it.

We should know, important aspect of life is, Health. How much are we aware of
our own health status? Person who does not fall sick again n again is healthy
person. In our life, we should know how to adopt to difficult situation, different
environment etc. We know Mind only makes us cry. We should try and increase
the status of mind, so that we improve. If we do not use our brain actively then
brain cells die and there is no regeneration. All other tissues has regeneration. So
once we stop using the brain( like not learning, reading etc) then automatically we
start forgetting things, which is happening regularly now a days. We do remember
past things, but yesterday’s recording is lost. Eg. We all know what peon does,
takes file from one table and keep on other. That's mechanical action he does
whole life. So we know how he behaves or how is his brain. We should learn
everyday from each and every field. Our mind should understand variety of things
and we should grow in lot many areas. We all have great treasure within us. But
to use it, is an art. We all have body, mind and intellect and we should learn to
use it properly, that's an art. So we should first set standard, that where we
should reach in our life( Goal of life) and then we have to be aware of it.

Shloka 22

Principle of Selfless.

Principle of this verse is how our mind will be selfless.

Bhagwan says, I have nothing to attain because I am complete. Still I keep doing n
number of things, without stopping, because I want to set an example of
selflessness. We go through 3 sets Avasthas.

1) Brahmachari avastha – in which we study

2) Grahsta Ashram – In which we earn

3) Vrudh Ashram – In which we contemplate on truth.

We earn and store money for future and we do not give. We need to understand,
when water is stored and not given to others for long time, then all wrong
organism develops in it and it gets spoiled. Same way, money if we go on making
and keep it with us for long time, then it too gets spoiled by one or other way.
Hence we should give as much as we can. We should understand how much we
need and rest we should give. If we don't give and just store it, then we will
understand what happens to it. ( Usme vikar utpann hota hai).

Let’s understand, when we share, what happens. Suppose if we have 5 things and
one we share, then 4 things will get purified. ( We know, at any puja etc, we first
give food to cow, then to pitr and then we eat because then food gets purified).
Same way, if we have to purify our knowledge, then we have to share the
knowledge. Gandhi once asked, said, secret of his health is because he does not
think of himself.??? Those who are selfless, prakrati takes care of them
automatically. ( Read autobiography – Yogi by yogananda). We know recent
example of our PM, Mr.Modi, who went to US and he was fasting during that time,
but he did not break his fast. So he has sent the high standard for all of us.

Love is Supreme.

More we grow in our life, automatically our kids will grow. Selflessness should be
absolutely natural in our life, than we will grow enormously. We only should see,
how we can put our action with attitude of selflessness.

Real happiness comes from giving.

Shloka 23

Topic here is, Bhagwan says, I take the responsibility of showing path of Dharma.
So from this we should understand, that whatever we are doing, we should take
responsibility of our action. We cannot blame others. It is our responsibility to
make it happen, from every action, what we do. Eg. Suppose if student is studying
in one room and he hears the sound, and he complains , sound is coming hence
he cannot study. We should understand , that this is just an excuse what he tries
to give. He give this excuse to run away from studies( action). We have to learn to
take complete charge of our action and we cannot blame others. Once one
become independent , his confidence level increases, he will enjoy the action and
will focus on action. When something doesn't happen, we try to grab the
sympathy and then we become weak. If we have to become strong, then we have
to drop the “sympathy”. When we take complete charge of our action, then we
will plan our action, and even if result of action is good or bad, still we will accept
the result gracefully and our mind will remain stable and then mind’s creativity
will increase. We will become more creative. Eg. When any artist perfoms on
stage, few minutes before performance, that artist likes to spend few minutes
alone, just to take charge of self. We have also seen Arjuna was crying in the
battlefield but has bhagwan got affected by it? But if someone cries in front of us,
we can understand how we get affected and if we forget to get charge of
situation then we become part of that situation. Once we become part of the
situation, then we cannot solve the situation. We also get into that situation. Our
life is series of situations. We will have Bad and Good situations. And we have to
learn to manage the situations. Bhagawan did not allow sorrow of Arjuna to enter
his mind. He patiently listen to him and when Arjuna crossed the limit, he also
used some harsh words to make him understand the reality of life. Same way
sometimes we should also become little disciplined to get others in control. But
we should not get Angry. When you respond with anger it is called reaction. Then
one loses the stability of mind. Then there will be only fight and there will be
crises in the situation. Sometimes we overlook the situation. Same situation then
becomes tough. We still don't attempt to solve it. Situation still remains the same.
In few days it becomes a problem. Then we panic and we are unable to solve the
problem and this situation becomes crises and person facing this crises becomes
handicap. He then surrenders to this crises. Eg. Addicted person. When he first
starts any addiction, many people tell him not to do it. But he doesn't listen and
continues. But at later stage even if he wants to leave it, he cannot leave it,
because he has become slave of that addiction. He is gone into crises and the next
situation will be death. So we need to take charge of situation and take quick
decision. We should not get drifted by emotions. If we get drifted by emotion, we
cannot take charge of situation. Do not allow you to get blackmailed by emotions.
When emotions are required, let emotions flow but when one has to control the
emotions , please control and take charge of the situation. If we do not take
charge of situation then we have to suffer.
