Snap Shot of Capstone Project 2015 – 2017 batch

ITM believes in the philosophy that “Faculty and students are co-producers of
knowledge”. ITM executes this philosophy through various means and ways that are
carried as a part of the curriculum. One such means is encouraging 2nd Year of Post
Graduate Diploma in Business Management (PGDM) to undertake capstone project.

The word capstone means finishing stone to complete a structure. Capstone

project is a culminating project which typically is integrated in nature covers all
major aspects of Business Management culminating academic and intellectual
experience for students.

This project is considered to be a mini-thesis that the students have to submit to the
institute. Each student is allotted a faculty guide by the Institute who acts as a mentor
to the student and ensures that the capstone projects reach to a sensible conclusion.
The students are asked to take one project title available/ given by the faculty
member. The students are expected to study literature available on the topic and
frame out objectives for their capstone projects. The faculty guide helps the students
in identifying the correct measurement tools or methodologies that can be used
during their project.
The broad objective of the Project is:

 To provide the students with the opportunity to demonstrate the ability to

identify and, select a range of research ideas and appropriate methodologies
to arrive at the outcomes and enable them to find out the problem areas and
the solutions thereof.

 To allow the students to show the application of the skills of data collection,
critical analysis and concept synthesis necessary to arrive at some
conclusions and / or recommendations being plausible and defensible.

 To provide a forum in which the students may demonstrate the skills of

structuring and present a balanced informed, complete, clear and concise
written argument.
The capstone Project for 2015 -2017 carries weightage of 100 marks equivalent to
One Credit course and starts from the September 2015 (3rd Sem). Refer ( Annexure
1 Guidelines for Capstone). Under the capstone project faculty members are
required to prepare possible list of titles for the research project in their own area .
Subsequently student approach faculty as allotted by the institute and pickup one
project title and start working on the project after registering with Asst. Manager
Academic Administration Mr. Thomas.

Student must start working on capstone project as per the guidelines within a
stipulated time period (Annexture - 2 Implementation Schedule for Capstone
Project)
Finally the hard copy and soft copy are preserved in the library and compendium of
best capstone projects in the respective areas are brought out.
