THE MOUSE

A. Introduction
When we operate a computer device, this one device is never absent
because it is an important part to support the operation of the computer as a
whole. Yes. This device is a mouse. This mouse is very useful when we
operate our computer because the main function of the mouse is a pointing
device (pointing device).
Mouse itself has been through a very rapid development from year to
year. Several years ago in terms of shape, this device has a monotonous shape.
But now if we hunt in computer stores both online and in computer stores, we
will find a lot of variations of mouse form. About 10 years ago this mouse form
is still standard. Still very rarely do we encounter mouse gaming at that time.
But now there are many standard mouse that has a form like a mouse gaming.

The standard mouse is like a mouse gaming

In addition to the development in terms of shape, the mouse of course
also experienced the development in terms of technology and its usefulness. In
terms of mouse technology that used to use mechanical sensors, mechanical
mouse, has now developed into the model of optical mouse. This is a very
rapid development.
Disadvantages that become obstacles in the mechanical mouse can be
overcome by either this optical mouse. In terms of usability, the previous
mouse output is generally only dedicated for the purpose of selecting items in
the computer via a click. But if you look, now many gaming-type mouse is
good for gaming or regular, equipped with many button accessories such as
buttons for back, forward, dpi selection and so on, which is not encountered in
the old mouse output.
Many of us are not concerned with this one device. What are the actual
functions of the mouse and its types. In this article we will discuss more about
the understanding of the mouse along with the functions and types of the
mouse.

B. Discussion
1) Understanding of the mouse
Mouse is one of the computer hardware that receives inputs such as
movement, click pressure, and scrolling that can be used to select texts,
icons, files, and folders. Mouse in Indonesian translates as "mouse". It is
said that the shape of this device resembles a tiny rat tapered in front and a
large bulge in the back.
2) Mouse function
As explained above, the mouse has the main function as a pointing
device, ie to move the pointer on the screen either personal computer (PC)
or laptop. But in addition to these functions, if we look further it turns out
this mouse has many uses that we often do not realize. Here are some mouse
functions you should know:
a. To execute a program
Mouse has an important role in this. We will very often use the
mouse to open files or run programs. In general, a file or program can be
opened and executed by doing double click.
b. To Select Object
Choosing is an activity that we can not avoid in the computer
world. Starting from selecting files, folders, even words in writing
programs like Microsoft Word. By using the mouse we can make the
choice as you wish.
c. Do drag and drop
By using the mouse we often do the process of drag and drop on
items in our computer, ranging from operations move, cut, until copy. By
supporting this capability through the mouse, it allows us to perform
these simple operations.
d. Get information via hover mouse
Hover is a state where our pointers are on certain menus, files, or
folders. When the pointer is in hover condition, then we will see an
information displayed. This information is called tooltips. This function
is very useful for us to quickly find out whether the function of the item
that we will click. Maybe you are less concerned with this one feature. So
when you operate your computer or laptop, try to explore this hover
feature.
e. Doing operation scroll
Try to look at what you do most often while reading the articles
on this page. Yes. So true. You do most of the scrolling, which is the
process of exploring the contents of the page by rolling it. Of course
scrolling is not the only way you can read this article down. Instead you
can use the arrow (arrow) on your keyboard. But that would be very
impractical. It is clear that this mouse support feature really helps your
activity in operating your computer or laptop.
f. nother mouse function
The other functions that are meant here are the advanced
functions of the mouse that are commonly used in programming
languages. If you are a programmer, of course you are familiar with this.
For example when we create a program, we want an event to run when
the mouse is performing a procedure.
3) Type of Mouse
Mouse used has been progressing from year to year. But in general,
the mouse can be classified from two important aspects, namely:
a. According to the mouse detection method
According to the location detection method, the mouse is
classified into three types:
1) Mechanical mouse

This type of mouse has a ball at the bottom. The ball at the
bottom of the mouse can move in any direction. As the ball moves, the
sensors in the mouse detect the direction of movement of the ball and
translate it to the monitor in the same movement. This type of mouse
is still very popular and found around until the year 2008.
Now this type of mouse is rarely found because it has been
replaced by more advanced technology. One drawback to using this
mouse is you have to use the mouse pad as your mouse pad. If not,
then the ball on the mouse will not move freely that makes your
pointer can not point to where you should be.
2) Optomechanical mouse

Optomechanical mouse is in principle the same as a

mechanical mouse. It's just that this type of mouse, in addition there is
a ball, in which there is also a light that represents the position of the
coordinates of the pointer. Thus this type of mouse has a higher
accuracy compared to a mechanical mouse.
3) Optical mouse

This type of mouse does not use a mechanical system at all.

Instead, this type uses a laser beam to detect the movement of the
mouse. Thus we can use this type of mouse without the need for a
mouse pad. Technology on the optical mouse makes its performance
much more precise than the previous two types of mouse
b. According to mouse connection to computer / laptop
Meanwhile, according to a mouse connection to a computer or
laptop, the mouse is divided into bus, serial, PS / 2, USB, and wireless
mouse. Here's an explanation of each type:
1) Bus mouse
This type of mouse connected to the PC via the bus, which is
used in the early use of IBM computers. This mouse is connected to a
PC through a bus device that is integrated on the ISA add-in card.
2) Serial mouse

As the name suggests, the mouse is connected via a serial port,

a digital communication medium where the information is sent in bits
per bit. The commonly used port is a D-type port with 9 pins (DB9M)
located on the back of the motherboard. This type of mouse is now
very rarely circulated.
3) PS/2 mouse

On a PS / 2 mouse, a 6-pin mini-din connector is used. This

mouse is booming starting in 1987. Generally the port that is destined
for this mouse has a green color. This type is also very rarely found in
the market. But if you buy a PC, you should not be surprised because
maybe there is still a port that includes this type of mouse.
4) USB mouse

Just like the previous mouse, the mouse is just different in its
port. This mouse uses USB as a signal delivery bridge from the mouse
to the monitor. The mouse with USB was first produced in the 1990s.
Now if you buy a mouse in the computer stores and accessories, you
will find a lot of mice that use USB because it is more practical.
5) Wireless mouse

The last type is a wireless mouse. In recent years all the digital
accessories are no exception the middle mouse leads to wireless
trends. This mouse does not require a cable to transmit signal
movement, but through wireless messages received receiver device on
the chip. The advantage of this mouse is to give a neat impression on
our computer devices. We can minimize cable wires.
But this type of mouse also has a shortage, which requires a
battery in operation, considering it does not have a cable.

C. Conclusion
Mouse is an input tool to move the pointer.
