Most resistivity instruments have only 4, 8 or up
to 10 channels. FlashRES-UNIVERSAL has 61
channels and can collect 61 points of voltage
data simultaneously for any AB current injection.
The operator can therefore spend less time in
the field due to the superior data collection
speed.

Features and benefits

3.

Ability to collect 62k data with 64 electrodes

The data collected with conventional arrays normally are under-determined for the resistivity inversion algorithm. This system can collect much more data than conventional systems, thus produces a better quality inversion imaging through superior data resolution.

in less than one hour.

4.

Ability to collect data with any conventional

Operator can apply any conventional or user- designed data collection arrays to acquire data.

or user-designed data acquisition arrays.

5.

Ability to combine all specified acquisition

There is no need to collect data separately per acquisition array. With this system, the operator can collect all data with all specified arrays in a single run. This makes data collection more effective and uses less time than conventional systems.

6.

The system can either run alone or linked

Unlike other systems that require one main unit and multiple sub-units to perform long surveys (These sub-units cannot be used independently for separate surveys). FlashRES-UNIVERSAL can be linked together to complete a long survey or used separately for surveys on different sites.

Lightweight design.

Easy to carry and handle in the field. This is especially useful for surveys in rugged terrains.

Case Studies

1. Surface-borehole survey

As figure 1 shows, this surface-borehole survey was configured to accurately find caves for structural reasons. The operator collected 60k data points in one hour as a result of FlashRES system can collect all voltage readings for each combination of current electrodes.

Figure 2 shows that the inversion image obtained from the data set has a low resistivity anomaly on each side of the borehole; two caves were found after drilling holes on both sides of the borehole.

2. Cross hole survey

As figure 3 shows, this cross-hole survey was configured to find aquifer zones. Figure 4 shows only 7 and 14 electrodes were used in the left and right borehole respectively due to site constraints. With a special data acquisition arrangement, 2,500 data points were collected within 10 minutes.

The data points were then inverted into a true resistivity section. It is apparent that a high resistivity band locates in the middle of the survey area, which resembles a sandstone layer that decreases in thickness from right to left. The sandstone's upper and lower layers are composed of limestone with high porosity and a high water content, thus low resistivity. Borehole logging and core logging subsequently concurs with the inversion image.
