MESSAGE from CHAIRPERSONS of

10thJiFESS 2014 ORGANIZING COMMITTEE

10th Jakarta International Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (JiFESS) meeting,

will be organized on date 7 – 11 (read: seven-eleven) March 2014 at Grand Hyatt
Hotel and Faculty of Medicine University of Indonesia – Dr. Cipto
Mangunkusumo Hospital Jakarta – Indonesia.

Year 2014 would be the 10th in organizing the meeting and the 9th year
celebration of JiFESS. This is because we organized meeting twice in 2006; as it
was named previously as “ Kursus BSEF Supervisi Mandiri “.

All of the time, the meeting has been taken place in Jakarta consecutively. Why
Jakarta, thus why not Jakarta ? The answer is very obvious then, Jakarta is the
capital city of Indonesia; owned by the people of Indonesia. Jakarta is a
benchmark for safety and prosperity. Jakarta is representing diversity of
Indonesia, Bhinneka Tunggal Ika. Even the date of JiFESS has a co-branding with
Java Jazz Festival held annually in Jakarta, along as a reminder of the friendship
has been built with Professor Brent A. Senior, and as its concept followed the
motto “bring the world’s (speakers) to Indonesia”.

This 10thJiFESS of 2014, Professor Heinz Stammberger is also invited as guest of

honor. His commitment is evidently established through years in teaching FESS
and related Rhinologic subjects. He is a role model for Rhino surgeon not only in
Indonesia, but also in ASEAN countries even around the world.

We want the young generation of ENT specialist in Indonesia obtain the

understanding and philosophy of functional preservation in FESS directly from
the Master. The importance of dexterity training to achieve fine-motor skill in
using many FESS instruments will be taught. Furthermore the advanced
technology in FESS that give benefits and in another hand will turn into disaster
will be analyzed as well.

Finally, the success meeting will not have the one and only switch, altogether like
in symphonic orchestra, every one take their own responsibility and meaningful
contributions for the greatest benefit of knowledge and science to human life.

May Allah give His Blessed to the meeting and to the people who taking part of it.

5. Paper & Presentation Award for Residents

and Young ENT Specialist.
 All papers of research works and interesting cases are welcome for poster
presentation.
 Outstanding research works and interesting cases will be selected from
submitted papers by the Scientific Committee for 7-minutes oral
presentation.
 Sterimar award will be presented to the one winner of Best Reseach Paper
and Presentation. The award will cover the attendance for 15th ASEAN ORL-
HNS Meeting in Cebu City, The Philippines, including registration fee, travel
expenses, hotel accommodation and JiFESS prize of IDR 10.000.000,-
 Awards of Best Presentation of Case Report will be provided for 3 winners.
 All posters will be evaluated by the Scientific Committee and the awards will
be provided also for 3 winners.
o The second and third winner of Best Research Paper & Presentation
will be awarded an amount of IDR 7.500.000,- and IDR 5.000.000,-
o Award of IDR 4.000.000 each will be for 3 (three) winners of Best Case
Presentation
o Award of IDR 2.500.000 each will be for 3 (three) winners of Best
Poster Presentation.
Presentation Guidelines

1. E-Poster presentation
 Poster size: Width 80 cm. x Height 120 cm.
 Poster will be uploaded into e-poster presentation
 Poster with 5-minute research-highlight presented orally.
2. Case presentation
 The delegates whose papers are selected for 7-minutes oral presentation
awards are invited to give presentation with PowerPoint slides for 7
minutes and response to questions from the Examiners for 5minutes.
 The slides, the presentation and the examination should be in English.
3. Research Paper & Presentation
 The delegates whose papers are selected for best research award are
invited to give presentation with PowerPoint slides for 7 minutes and
response to questions from the Examiners for 10 minutes.
 The slides, the presentations and the examination should be in English.
 The best three winners (with accumulated points of paper contents and
presentations) will be selected to present their PowerPoint slide for 7
minutes in the Plennary Session on Sunday 9 March 2014 and response to
questions from floor / examiners for 13 minutes.

Abstract & Paper Submission Guidelines

General Information
1. The paper must be written in Bahasa Indonesia using MS word and fulfilled
requirements following Journal of Otorhinolaryngology Indonesiana (ORLI)
Paper Submission.
2. Deadline: paper MUST BE RECEIVED no later than 31 January 2014.
3. Presenting author must pay the registration fee and attend the meeting.
4. Please note that all submitted papers will be welcomed for poster
presentation.

Content of Abstract of Research Paper

1. Structured abstract containing Introduction, Objective, Materials & Methods,
Result, and Conclusion is recommended.
2. Body of abstracts (including 5 parts recommended above) are limited to 250
words.
3. Please specify 3-5 Keywords well-relating to your work.
4. Please try to limit your author list to 10.
5. References and credits MUST NOT be included in the abstract.
6. Use standard abbreviations in parentheses after the full word the first time it
appears.

After paper and abstract reviewing by scientific committee, some research paper
or interesting cases will be selected for oral presentations with awards for
further evaluation during the meeting. The nominees will be notified by e-mail
by 21 February 2014.
