 Information about the
project

"Migration - Challenge of Modernity" is a two-stage Erasmus+ project aiming

to cover, explore, discuss and deal with integration related challenges linked
to the migration process and. The purpose of the project is to take care of
human rights of the citizens from all around the world. By creating the
international network of civic organizations and creating discussions among
youngsters, governmental and non-governmental organizations, experts in the
topic and academicians.
Our societies are dealing with migration-related challenges. Successful
integration is the new driving policy in the contemporary Europe and as all the
researches and studies show, an active and positive input of civic society is
desperately needed. It is well known that reasons for displacement can be
diverse - poverty, social or political exclusion, war, a quest for a better life,
studies or work. The entire above mentioned are logical and historically
repeating steps for human migration. No matter what reason the people have
for migration, the outcome is always the same. Migration is followed by
advantages and disadvantages that need to be explored and analyzed without
creating stereotypes and radicalization. In this project, we are going to share
new tools and methodology among youth workers and NGO workers in order
to strengthen the integration and peace building process in the global
community, which is the main aim of the project.
The main aim of the project is to bring positive change into the minds of people
and support introduction of the European policy agenda for the growth, peace
building, integration and social inclusion via non-formal education. The project
content is to build strong logical chain to rising up the awareness about
migration and importance of integration process for the modern society.

 The first stage of the project

The first stage of the project was held in Adamov, Czech Republic on 11-
17 July, 2017.
During the contact making seminar participant had a chance to engage in
various workshops, study visits, conferences with guest speakers,
discussions in the area of human rights and migration.
Genesis is a non-profit non-governmental organization working with young
people, people with disabilities and fewer opportunities. We are interested
in human rights, peace building, ecology, sustainable development, active
citizenship and also in communication and personal development because
we observe a necessity for it in our hectic society. We also organize various
activities to enhance leadership and managerial skills among young people
trying to raise their employability. We organize international trainings,
seminars, conferences, summer camps and youth exchanges in Europe and
in Asia. We also run the project Genesis in Cambodia helping kids from
garbage site in Cambodia to get education.
We believe in power of experience. Learning by doing is a very effective way
how to learn and this is the method we use. All our activities are interactive.
We believe in education, tolerance, friendship, kindness, beauty of help,
nature and respect. Every human being is special and everybody has
something to offer. Some of us just need help to explore it. Based on these
values we help young people to be active human beings and responsible
citizens and to find their place not only on job market but in the world in
general.

International Center for Peace and Integration (ICPI) is a non-
governmental organization founded in 2011 by active youth leaders
and ex-EVS volunteers, coming from different background and
experiences with the Georgian civil society. The main mission of
ICPI is to support socially active youngsters, promote integration and
contribute peace-building processes, to give a hand to create more
active, educated and modern society. The organization aims to
support young people’s personal, educational and spiritual
development, to promote the idea of active citizenship and
importance of volunteering, deepen intercultural relations and build
partnership between Georgia and other European countries.
ICPI is working in different social, educational and cultural fields with
different target groups such as: children, youth, students, refugees,
etc.

 VENUE

The participants were staying at a campsite in eco village

Phona, in Lagodekhi. During daytime, all their sessions
and activities were held outside; at night, they slept in
tents. This helped them to feel closer to nature and also,
to become more aware of the condition some of the
migrants had to endure for long periods of time.
 DAY 1 – CITY RACING

Apart from leaving in nature, participants also got

a chance to interact with the locals and migrant
community during an activity entitled “City
Racing”. The found out what it feels like to be a
migrant, what can be some push factors of
migration and which pros and cons living in a new
environment with new community can have.
 DAY 2 – PRESENTING LOCAL
RESEARCHES, HOSTING GUEST
SPEAKERS

Topic of the project was migration. In order to engage participants

more deeply in this topic, they were given small tasks: they had to
prepare small researches regarding migration management in their
countries.
Since there were eight countries involved in the project, all the
participants could find out migration practices, rights and opportunities
of migrants, attitudes of local citizens in seven foreign countries. This
turned out to be informative, since participants had a chance to
exchange experiences and share practices of their respective countries.

TEMUR GOGINOVI
Temur Goginovi is the Analyst
at the Secretariat of the State
Commission on Migration Issues
(SCMI) / Public Service Development
Agency (PSDA) of the Ministry of
Justice of Georgia. Temur has been
associated with the Secretariat for the
past 4 years. During this time, he has
been involved in elaboration of 2016-
2020 Migration Strategy of Georgia, its
2016-2017 Action Plan and country’s
Migration Profile for 2015. He is the
author of the guidebooks on legal
immigration and emigration and co-
author of the chapter on migration and
public administration in the
interdisciplinary migration textbook
developed by ICMPD and SCMI
Secretariat for students.
Currently, he is working together with his colleagues from the analytical unit of the
Secretariat on Georgia’s Migration Profile for 2017 and 2018 Action Plan for Migration
Strategy of Georgia.
 IRAKLI MALANIA

About: Irakli works for the refugee integration project implemented by the United Nations Association of
Georgia (UNAG) in cooperation with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees
(UNHCR), which provides asylum seekers, humanitarian status holders and refugees with a venue for
experience sharing, interaction and cultural exchange. He is directly involved in legal advocacy of refugee rights,
integration support services, focusing on overcoming isolation of refugees, and facilitating social, economic and
cultural integration within the Georgian society.
Irakli graduated from the Free University of Tbilisi with a BA Honors specialization in International Relations
with Concentration on Far East (Chinese Language). Irakli spent an exchange year in Nanjing, China studying
Chinese language, culture and history at Nanjing Normal University. Throughout his studies at university, he
worked on several papers concentrated on ethno-political conflict in Moldova, Georgia and Cyprus with
emphasis on the involvement of third force, human rights in South Caucasus region and development processes
in south-east Asia.
Irakli was part of human rights training organized by the World Federation of United Nations Associations in
Geneva concentrating on human rights instruments and implementing mechanisms and was appointed to carry
out human rights education and awareness activities in Georgia. He was also nominated to represent the United
Nations Association of Georgia at the first United Nations Forum on Human Rights, Democracy and Rule of
Law in Geneva. The purpose of the forum was to identify and analyze best practices, challenges and
opportunities for states in their efforts to secure respect for human rights and involve youth in public-decision
making process.
Irakli has an extensive experience working on human rights projects with an emphasis on integration. He
worked as a project assistant for the Advancing National Integration project implemented by the United
Nations Association of Georgia, which creates favorable conditions for facilitating a direct dialogue between
ethnic majority and ethnic minority groups.
 DAY 3 – SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGNING,

ZURA BALANCHIVADZE

Zura Balanchivadze is a trainer in Social

Media since 2014. He regularly gives classes
in GAU Tbilisi PR School. Zura
Balanchivadze is active blogger since 2008
and has led up to 50 campaigns in social
networks up to date. Project Management
via Social Media is his new short course
which he introduces with different groups
of students including those who take part
in non-formal educational projects.
Zura Balanchivadze graduated Tbilisi State University as a bachelor Journalist and
then Georgian Institute of Public Affairs (GIPA) as a master of Journalism. He
works in GEPRA PR agency as a Social Media manager and a Content Creator and
in Chai-Khana media organization as a freelance Journalist. Zura Balanchivadze
actively participates in ICPI’s initiatives as a trainer and creates a platform of
interested students in Social Media in terms of non-formal education.
Participants were mentored to shoot viral videos that promoted positive
messages regarding migration.
They were divided into five groups and each group worked on their own
original idea.

 DAY 4 – HIKING
One of the goals of the
project was to promote
healthy lifestyle, so project
organizers decided to
include hiking in Lagodekhi
Protected Area as a project
activity.
Lagodekhi Protected
Areas - one of the world’s
best-preserved, primitive
area with diversity of natural
landscapes – is located in
Lagodekhi, in the extreme
north-eastern part of the
southern slopes of the
Caucasus and extends at an
altitude of 590-3500 m.
 DAY 5 – GETTING TO KNOW
ERASMUS+, CREATING PROJECT IDEAS
One of the main parts of the project was familiarizing
the participants with Erasmus+. Facilitators presented
how Erasmus+ works, steps for filling out applications
and applying, some necessary to-do-s to earn funding
for projects. Later, participants formed groups and
worked on their own project ideas.
 DAY 6 – PRESENTING ERASMUS+
APPLICATIONS, FINAL EVALUATION

During the first part of the day, participants concluded

working on their applications and presented their work
to the whole group.
Later, the whole group engaged in the evaluation
process. Everybody shared their feelings about the
team, about working process, location, etc. Participants
also discussed their future plans and how they would
use knowledge gained during the project.
