4 Test procedure for the KITAS

The CTCII is now connected to the KITAS.

Condition
The CTCII is connected to a power supply.

When the CTCII is connected to the power supply, it starts

automatically, displaying the basic menu.

PROGRAMMING

When the KITAS function has been selected from the basic
menu, the CTCII displays the following menu:

# KITAS #
ACTIVATE KITAS <

SERIAL NUMBER

4.1 Activating KITAS

1 Select "KITAS > ACTIVATE KITAS" and confirm.

The CTCII reads the tachograph type and parameter data
and automatically starts the KITAS activation procedure.

2 End program.

4.2 Sensor test

4.2.1 KITAS test

1 Select "KITAS > SENSOR TEST > PULSE TEST" and confirm.

2 To simulate sensor pulses:

a) With KITAS connected:
– Drive the vehicle smoothly and steadily (measurement on
the road)
or
KITAS Testing Instructions for CTCII • Edition 03/2014

– rotate the wheels of the vehicle evenly (rolling road).

b) KITAS not connected – standard version:

– Rotate the axle of the KITAS, e.g. with a screwdriver.

c) KITAS not connected – integrated version:

– Pass a metal object over the KITAS axle.

The counted pulses from the KITAS will be displayed.

3 Press to finish the pulse count procedure and continue with

the sensor check.

When KITAS pulse signal testing has been completed

successfully, the digital status of the KITAS sensor is read out
and displayed; see the following Section entitled "KITAS
status message".

4.2.2 KITAS status message

You can call up KITAS status messages without having to test

Important the KITAS. To do this, connect the CTCII to the power supply
and select
KITAS > SENSOR TEST > KITAS STATUS.

1 The test device establishes the data interchange with the

KITAS:
The digital status of the installed KITAS sensor is displayed
after roughly 15 seconds.

2 The installed KITAS model is displayed under TYPE.

• KITAS 2

• KITAS 2+

The sensor type cannot be displayed for sensors with a test

Important key.
Sensors with a test key are always displayed as KITAS 2+,
regardless of the actual model.

For KITAS 2+ 2171.3 sensor models the sensor type can only
Important be displayed reliably from production date 01.03.2013.
For sensors manufactured between July 2012 and
01.03.2013 KITAS 2+ sensor models may also be shown as
KITAS 2.

3 Under KITAS, you can see whether or not the KITAS has
already been paired with a TCO.
• KITAS = MTCO
The KITAS has been paired with an MTCO 1324.
• KITAS = DTCO
The KITAS has been paired with a DTCO 1381.
• KITAS = unpaired
The KITAS has not yet been paired with a tachograph.

The KITAS 2170 can only be paired with an MTCO 1324. For
Important this type of sensor, KITAS = MTCO is always shown under

KITAS.

The first time the KITAS 2171 is paired with tachograph types
Important MTCO 1324 or DTCO 1381, the KITAS 2171 is permanently
configured for that particular tachograph type and can only be
used for that type in future.

4 End program.

4.3 Reading the KITAS serial number

A CTCII can read out the KITAS serial number directly. For
this, the KITAS must be connected to the CTCII with a
suitable test cable.

To read out the serial number, the CTCII must be connected

to an external power supply. The CTCII test cable also
supplies the KITAS with power.

Make sure that the CTCII is connected directly to the KITAS

Important when reading the serial number.
