Fordham University is the best kept secret in the cultural hotspot in the Bronx, New

York. Fordham is traced back to 1839 when John Hudghes, the bishop of New York, purchased

one-hundred acres of land to build the University on Rose Hill. Attending Fordham university

sets one up for post- baccalaureate success by its exceptional student life opportunities, ideal

size, and convenient location.

succeed between the two locations, Rose Hill and the Lincoln center (Fordham.edu). An

important element to this University is its Roman Catholic background. This is an appreciable

benefit for students who have a Catholic background or ones who might be open to a Christian

environment. Located on campus are two chapels and one main campus church that students are

encouraged to attend. Also, there are twenty-three Division 1 varsity sports for men and women

that can be awarded scholarships (Fordham.edu). In addition, there are twenty-four club and

intramural sports to participate in (collegeboard.org). These athletic opportunities keep students

entertained and busy during their time at Fordham. Aside from athletics, Fordham encourages

one to dream big while offering more than seventy majors, minors, and professional programs.

Fordham also awards Doctorate, graduate certification, Bachelors, and Masters degrees

(Naviance.com). The academics at Fordham make students successful by offering a wide range

of options allowing students to pursue their long-term career decisions. Over six years at
Fordham, 80% graduate and move onto post graduate jobs or continuing education

(Fordham.edu). The academic and athletic student life opportunities make this an ideal school to

attend, providing the best possible college experience with a blend of academics and athletics.

In addition, attending Fordham university sets one up for post- baccalaureate success by

its ideal size. Fordham has a campus environment that allows students to not only succeed but

thrive. The student to faculty ratio is 14:1 which ensures the intellectual growth of the students

(Fordham.edu). With this ratio, the teachers are easier to access and willing to help their

students succeed. The acceptance rate at Fordham is very selective at 44% (Naviance.com). This

low acceptance rate makes it harder to get into and only accepts the most qualified students

keeping the student population down. Fordham is a medium size school with 15,286 students

currently enrolled. The population is very diverse being 59% white, 14.3% Hispanic, 9.5%

Asian, and others (collegeboard.org). This year’s incoming freshman class includes 225

international students from countries as far as Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Malaysia,

Nigeria, and even more (Fordham.edu). Having many international students creates a learning

experience for all cultures to learn about each other. Fordham is ranked number 61 in the country

attracting a very diverse population of students (usnews.com). The campus is also very clean

and spacious, providing a peaceful and focused college experience. Fordham is an ideal school

for students who learn most effectively in medium sized school environments and enjoy the city

setting.

Lastly, attending Fordham university sets one up for post-baccalaureate success by its

convenient location. Fordham is established in the center of the Bronx, New York. There are

many activities and places to go because the school is in a large city. Students living on the Rose

Hill campus are within walking distance of The Bronx Zoo, New York Botanical Gardens, and
Little Italy. Also, Students attending the Lincoln campus are located very close to Central Park

(usnews.com). Students can travel between campuses on the school’s Ram Van. The Ram Van

runs every half hour, and makes enough trips to cover the equivalent of traveling the world 18.5

times a year (usnews.com). It is also convenient because of the job and internship opportunities

in the vast city. Additionally, Fordham is located within twenty minutes of a beautiful beach,

allowing students to have a day away from campus and relax with friends (google maps).

Fordham is also located six hours away from Pittsburgh (google maps), making it a great

opportunity to gain responsibility and independence away from home, but also able to go home

on the weekends to visit.

In conclusion, attending Fordham University sets one up for post-baccalaureate success

by its exceptional student life opportunities, ideal size, and convenient location. Fordham

University serves as an ideal option for one’s education because of how it opens doors for all

students who attend.
