 Thereare four stages of Piaget’s
Cognitive Development. These are :
1. Sensorimotor
2. Preoperational
3. Concrete Operational
4. Formal Operational

 First Stage: Sensorimotor
Characteristics
1. Begins to make use of imitation, memory and
thought.
2. Begins to recognize that objects don’t cease to
exist when they are hidden.
3. Move from reflex actions to goal directed
activity.

 Second Stage : Preoperational
Characteristics
1. Gradually develops use of language and
ability to think in symbolic forms.
2. Able to think operations through logically in
one direction.
3. Has difficulties seeing another person point of
view.

7-11 Years

1. Able to solve concrete
problems in logical fashion.
2. Understands laws of
conservations and is able to
classify and seriate.
3. Understand reversibility.

social issues, identity.
