1 Two lives
Activity
Pairwork. Students narrate life stories.

Focus
Theme: life stories at different ages. Vocabulary: age.

Preparation
Photocopy one worksheet for each pair of students. Cut the
worksheet in half.

Procedure
• Divide the class into pairs. Hand out worksheet A to one
student and worksheet B to the other student in each pair.
Tell students not to look at each other’s worksheets.
• Explain that each worksheet shows pictures of a person’s
life at various ages. Explain that this person is now
80 years old.
• Ask students to work on their own to prepare the story
of their character’s life, using as many of the words and
expressions in the box as possible. Tell them to think
about the person’s whole life and not just what they see in
the pictures, i.e. including what came before or after the
pictures. The last picture is blank and represents now – so
students should invent what the picture shows and what
has happened to the person over recent years.
• When they are ready, students should meet up with their
partner and tell their story.
• After both stories have been told, the pair should agree
at least one way in which the two separate life stories
might have connected at some point (e.g. the two people
worked together).
