Rules:
1. Students will raise their hand and wait to be called on if they have something to say.
Explanation: Waiting to be called on shows respect for the teacher as he or she presents
the instruction. Not talking out of turn shows respect for what your classmate is saying.
2. Students will stay in their seats for their entire class period unless the teacher has given other
directions.
Explanation: This is so that everyone can focus on the instruction and not miss any
important information the teacher is trying to give you. This is also for your safety since

1. The teacher will choose a student each week to write about. They will highlight things
like good behavior, following directions, helping a classmate, cleaning up a mess, etc.

Procedures:
Late homework:
-If homework is left in the student’s locker and turned in between class periods
there will be a 2 point deduction.
-One-day late 5 point deduction
-Two days late 10 point deduction
-Three days late, half credit
-Four or more days late no credit. One missed recess to complete the assignment.
-More than four late assignments in a semester will result in a note home to the
parents.
Absences:
Students are allowed to be absent no more than six days* of the school year. The parent
must call the school office before 9:00am the day their student is absent. The parent must
leave their name, their child’s name, reason for absence, and phone number where they
can be reached. The student must bring a handwritten note, signed by the parent, the day
they return to class.
When student returns to school, they are expected to check the “absent folder” to see
what work they missed while they were out. They have three class days to complete any
missed work.
*If student misses more than 6 days, a doctor’s note will need to be provided. A
conference will need to be set up with the Dean of Students.
Test Rules:
Students are expected to have adequately prepared for any tests/exams prior to class. No
notes, cheat sheets, notebooks, or textbooks are allowed to be used unless otherwise
noted. Cheating is never permitted. If a teacher suspects a student of cheating, they will
automatically receive a 0% on the test and a student-parent-teacher conference will be set
up.

Expectations: Teachers should adequately inform parents of their students’ academic progress,
inform them of their student’s classroom behavior, and address any concerns.
Teachers should welcome parents and thank them for taking the time to meet. Teachers
should keep a positive attitude throughout the conference while honestly informing the parents
about their child. A few artifacts of homework, tests, and/or projects should be shown to parents
during the conference so that they are able to see their child’s work and achievements. Teachers
should check the behavior binder before the conference and bring up any reoccurring or
significant misbehavior issues. Teachers should make sure they stress a few positive
achievements their child has accomplished or any notable virtues their child exemplifies.

This year there will be five options for students to take part in. Every students is required

the school play, celebration crew, spring variety show crew, participation in the three pep rallies,
The school play: The school play this year is The Little Mermaid! The play needs
both male and female actors. If acting is not for you but you would still be
interested in participating, no worries! Students are needed for stage crew, set
Celebration Crew: Celebration will stay for one hour after school, once a week,
to make banners and posters for students in the school who have birthdays in the
upcoming week. The Celebration Crew will be dismissed from class ten minutes
before lunch, every Monday, to set up the birthday banners and posters for that
week.
Spring Variety Show Team: The Spring Variety Show Team will be in charge
of sign ups, organization of the acts, and creating the Variety Show program.
Pep Rally: Students involved in the pep rally will have three planning meetings
prior to each pep rally (fall, winter, and spring). They will plan and organize all
assigned an event). Using the school computers, they will edit and designed pages

Our school understands how trying Middle School can be for many students, to ensure
students not only survive Middle School but thrive in Middle School, the teachers have created a
plan to create unity throughout the grade when in come to rules, discipline, consequences, and
procedures. To bring students together, as a unified community, students are encouraged to join
one or more community building activities. This interdisciplinary plan is rooted in theorist
Rudolf Dreikurs discipline model because he understood that humans, social beings, hold a deep
need for a sense of belonging. Dreikurs’ model is all about positive discipline when it comes to
students’ behavior. Our school has the same vision for what we would like to see in our students
as Dreikurs, responsible and respectful students. In brief, his model states that teachers should
“…[promote] the use of encouragement and logical (and natural) consequences rather than
reward and punishment. Essentially, every action of the child is grounded in the idea that he is
seeking his place in the group.” (Classroom Management Theorists and Theories ) This means if
a child feels secure where they are in the group and who they are in that group then they will not
misbehave. This interdisciplinary discipline plan is being put into practice to ensure that each
student is able to comfortably find his or her place in the class and as an individual in a
community.
