In Listening part 1, focus on the instructions and the introduction. If there is a name, write it down on
the booklet. It can be used later in e-mail addresses for example. Be modest. Take care of ur British
spelling. Don’t hesitate to start by learning the alphabet and numbers from scratch. Take care of /b/ and
/p/, /m/ and /n/, double Oh (00) or double three (33) and the plural (s). Airline numbers r a mixture of
both letters and numbers. Focus and write them as fast as u can. Speakers tend to hide sounds. Listen to
different accents for pronunciation and dialects for pronunciation, vocabulary and structure. Part 1 is
tricky and you can lose a mark or two there, so focus, focus and focus. You can write down ideas on the
booklet to remind u if you lose track of some questions. Use Dr. Muhammad Khalil Mousa, IELTS Liz and
IELTS Master Lee as just an introduction to listening. Answer lots of Part 1 only at the beginning to your
preparation to boost ur self-confidence and develop ur listening memory for accents. Keywords are of
paramount importance and sometimes speakers use self-correction. Official IELTS Practice Tests on
youtube are by far the best exams ever for candidates targeting 8 to 9, practise on a daily basis. They r
tough, but on exam day u will feel the tape is slow motion compared to them. Always raise the level of
your ambitions, especially in the Listening and Speaking modules. They r the backbone of ur overall
score. My target was 9 in listening, yet I got 8.5 and I know my two mistakes.
In listening part 2 and sometimes 3 and 4, read the instructions, underline keywords and think of
synonyms as quickly as u can. Write down words from the listening, they can help u later. During
listening, don’t read the questions while listening, you will lose marks. Listen to the part of the question,
then write or choose the correct answer. For maps, listen to Dr Mohamed Khalil Mousa’s video on maps,
page 23 in his book. Truly nice work. Practise listening to 10 maps at least alone. Explore and develop ur
technique.
In listening part 3, read the instructions and when u first open ur booklet before part 1 starts, read with
focus at least two or three multiple choice questions from part 3, underline keywords, know the overall
topic and think of the synonyms. This needs lots of practice. I lost a mark in this section.
In listening part 4, it is a lecture. I lost a mark here (question 38) cuz of loss of focus. This is the easiest
part for me cuz I love lectures. Read the instructions, the questions, guess what’s needed from u. There
is a pause in the middle, this will be question 36-37. The lecturer uses synonyms and sometimes starts
the sentence from back to front. Focus on the keyword(s) only to answer well. The voice of the lecturer
is raised while uttering them. If there are MCQs, use the same technique of part 3. Please, practise a lot.
Start with the easy Cambridge Books and then practise the Official IELTS Practice Tests on youtube.
Remember, focus, focus, focus and practise, practise, practise. Read and listen to the tape scripts of
tests to open up ur ears and develop ur listening memory (-er, -or, -re, /p/, etc). Always be fierce and
target 9 in listening even if ur level is below 6. There is a common IELTS vocabulary guide for listening.
Download it and have a look and memorise the spelling of the words u don’t know. If u follow these tips
and tricks, u will get 8 at least in the listening module. Trust me.

Part 0:
Part 0 is not part of ur IELTS speaking module evaluation. The purpose of which is to make sure
u r the registered candidate. Don’t elaborate in this part, please. This video will make life easy
for u. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzTSh7zwRIM

Part 1 (4-5 minutes):

Take a deep breath and regard the examiner as a friend not foe. Raise ur voice. Speak slowly but
surely. Ur body language should indicate ur self-confidence and readiness for the exam. If u
make mistakes, don’t hesitate to correct urself. If the question is not heard, ask for repetition, but
not more than once because this means that ur listening is below standard. It is better than off-
topic answers. When u listen to the question, be focused and attentive and talk in complete
sentences: Subject + Verb + Object. Don’t use phrases.

This part is very important because it puts u in which category ur score will be: 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8.
Practise it a lot with a speaking partner or a speaking tutor. This will pay off in parts 2 and part 3,
believe me. I practised it for 2 or 3 sessions with my tutor. U should be asked all sorts of
questions (about 100-200 questions) repeatedly. U can find speaking tests on
www.ieltsmaterial.com. Always be on topic for task achievement. Use the technique (1, 2, Stop).
If means u say a sentence and another sentence connected with (and, but, so, because, although)
and stop. Remember, repeat this technique with ur partner or tutor for repetition is the mother of
skill.
For example:
A: Do you work or study?
B: Actually, I’m currently a student at the Faculty of Medicine, but in summer I do lots of
volunteer work for charities to gain experience and expertise. (Stop)
A: What’s ur favourite colour?
B: I love blue because it always reminds of the sea where I used to spend lots of time playing
there. (Stop)
This video is to impress ur examiner: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6Coso1UbYQ
If ur level is below 5, Don’t worry. Use simple fluent sentence and pronounced correctly. U will
improve I am sure. Use expressions u prepared about ur profession (Hend El Kayyal, 2017). Use
idioms, fillers such as Well, In fact, In my opinion, If u ask me and of course use synonyms. U
can find all that on www.pinterest.com which is a site for international schools.

Download IELTS Speaking by Mark Allen together with its audio. It is an informative book
written for Chinese students. It is a piece of art.

Watch Part 1 of IELTS speaking videos of candidates who scored 9. Press CC at the bottom of
the video to become aware of their expressions, lexical items, structure, use of idioms and
sentences, sometimes their lies and fabrications. Don’t be frustrated by their level. Imitate and
emulate. Leave a decent comment (1, 2, Stop).
Example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94qopJYqDXc

A. J. Hoge is a great American teacher. U can watch and apply his 7 secrets of Effortless
English.
https://www.youtube.com/watch…

Part 1 will take u about two weeks and if u r in a hurry start a week after the beginning of the
Listening module to save time.
Don’t start the reading and writing module yet. Listening and speaking are the backbone of your
overall band score. Always target 9 in them. Three weeks and u will sense the difference. Keep
going and never quit.
For high band score, use contractions such as (I’m, I’ve, I’d, He’s, She’d, He’ll). You must
revise the main tenses and their passive voice. Revise If type 1, 2 and 3. Revise the use of
Despite, In addition to, However, No sooner … than and Hardly … when. Show off ur synonyms
and grammar.
‫ليه؟ لو السؤال فى المضارع يبقى حتتكلم مضارع ولو ماضى يبقى ماضى وكده‬.
A: Do you like music?
B: Yes, I’m a great fan of music because I’m really into singing and classical music for music is
the food of the spirit. I’ve recently been to a concert of Omar Khairat’s at the Library of
Alexandria.

IELTS Speaking Parts 2 and 3:

‫ على األقل فى اإلستماع والتحدث؟‬8 ‫دى الحلقة الثالثة واألخيرة من كيف تحصل على‬
Part 2: ( 3 minutes )
The examiner is going to give you a cue card and leave you for one minute to think about it:
1- Read the cue card carefully and underline the keywords: question words, keywords and the
tenses.
2- Don’t write sentences, just jot down main ideas in a mind map format and think about their
synonyms.
3- Take a deep breath before you talk and never stop till the examiner stops you.
4- You can digress and innovate ideas.
5- Don’t panic even if the topic is difficult.
6- Use a variety of sentence structures:
- Simple sentences
- Sentence + and + sentence
- Sentence + , but + sentence
- Sentence + , so + sentence
- Although + sentence, + sentence
- If + sentence, + sentence
- No sooner + had + subject + PP + than + past simple

Example: this is the topic I talked about on Thursday 7/9/2017

I’d like to talk about a painting I together with my family saw in an art exhibition in Alexandria
last year. It was about a mom holding tenderly her newly-born baby. What I liked most about
this painting is the emotions which splashed all over the painting. No sooner had I watched it at a
short distance than I sincerely felt how mothers suffer a lot during pregnancy and child birth. The
background was breathtaking and awesome and every stroke of the painter’s brush was done
meticulously.
Although I don’t like art myself, my wife, who graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts,
described and explained to me and to my kids the style and techniques used by the artist and the
type of the framework of the picture. As far as I can remember, the painting was like a real one
which was really vivid, breathtaking and awesome. Because we spent just a short time at that art
gallery, I promised my kids that we’d take another chance to visit other art galleries in the near
future. It was truly a great experience which changed our moods and added to our culture and
artistic sense.
‫ المهم الهدوء و ال‬.‫ صدقونى وهللا الكالم ده كله ألفته وأنا قاعد‬fluency ‫وإنك تكون متحمس ومبتسم وإنك تورى اللى قدامك‬
‫ إنك واثق من نفسك ومن لغتك ومن قواعدك و‬idioms and fillers ‫واستخدم إيدك وتعبيرات وشك وأنت بتشرح‬.
Part 3: (1-2 minute)
The examiner asked me just a couple of questions. She decided on the score from part 2 by the
way. I sensed that. We didn’t take much time in this discussion. She asked me about the
generation gap between the old and the young and art. I also told her about Aswan and the
beauty of nature there and the paintings on the walls of houses, temples and other places.
‫) أكتر‬8.5( ‫ ربنا معاكم و الدرجة اللى جبتها‬.‫الخالصة إنك تشوف حد تتكلم معاه كتير أومعلم يسألك أسئلة كتيرة غير متوقعة‬
