Family idioms

“It runs in the family”

If something runs in the family it means that it is a common theme or characteristic shared by
all family members.

“Blood is thicker than water”

It is used to imply that family relationships are always more important than friends.

“A Chip off the Old Block”

If you are chip off the old block, it means that you are very similar to your mother or father.

“Your own flesh and blood”

If somebody is your flesh and blood, it means that they are family.

“Black sheep of the family

If there is somebody in your family that is different to everybody else, then you can call them the
black sheep of the family.
