The difference between the success & failure is doing things right and doing things

nearly right, & Velan has always tried for success & that is why it is known to be

one of the leading companies in India as well as abroad.

In this report i have given a very brief review of what we have seen and learnt

during our internship. I have mentioned all these as I have made an internship as

Profile of the company

Velan is one of the world's leading manufacturers of industrial steel valves,

recognized as a standard-bearer in quality and innovation. The company was

founded by acclaimed inventor and entrepreneur A.K. Velan in 1950, and

continues to leverage advanced engineering capabilities and innovation to create

hard-working valves that meet critical industrial needs in the areas of power

generation, chemical and petrochemical, oil and gas, pulp and paper, mining,

cryogenic, and ship-building industries.

Velan's many product lines are grouped into the broad categories of: gate, globe,

and check valves; quarter-turn valves; specialty valves; and steam traps. Within

these product groups, Velan offers one of the most comprehensive product

offerings available from any valve manufacturer, in sizes varying from 1/2” to 60”,

with pressure ratings from vacuum to over 10,000 psi, temperature ratings of up to

1,500 °F, and availability of many material and design options. All of Velan’s

employees who have made quality and innovation the cornerstone of Velan since

its inception. We concentrate on one business—designing, manufacturing and

marketing advanced technology steel valves in a broad range of types and sizes.

That’s why we can truly claim: Velan. Quality that lasts.

Profile of the industry:

Introduction

Manufacturing has emerged as one of the high growth sectors in India. Prime

Minister of India, Mr Narendra Modi, had launched the ‘Make in India’ program to
place India on the world map as a manufacturing hub and give global recognition

to the Indian economy. India is expected to become the fifth largest manufacturing

country in the world by the end of year 2020*.

Market Size

The Gross Value Added (GVA) at basic constant (2011-12) prices from the

manufacturing sector in India grew 7.9 per cent year-on-year in 2016-17, as per the

2nd provisional estimate of annual national income published by the Government

of India. Under the Make in India initiative, the Government of India aims to

increase the share of the manufacturing sector to the gross domestic product (GDP)

to 25 per cent by 2022, from 16 per cent, and to create 100 million new jobs by

2022. Business conditions in the Indian manufacturing sector continue to remain

positive.

Investments

With the help of Make in India drive, India is on the path of becoming the hub for

hi-tech manufacturing as global giants such as GE, Siemens, HTC, Toshiba, and

Boeing have either set up or are in process of setting up manufacturing plants in

India, attracted by India's market of more than a billion consumers and increasing

purchasing power.

Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflows in India’s manufacturing sector grew by

82 per cent year-on-year to US$ 16.13 billion during April-November 2016.

Learnings from the training:

I was able to learn the Corporate culture. In an organization dealing with

people is very much necessaryr.I have acquired the

Interpersonal skills during the internship period.Time management and

dressing sense are a part of corporate world.I have learnt those skills during

the period as well as the policies and rules specific to an industry.I was able

to match the concepts what learnt in the college with an industry.

MANAGERIAL SKILLS DEVELOPED

Cross functional dynamics in an organisation

In Velan Valves, each departments share their information and data’s which are related to other
departments. With this cross function dynamics, they can easily know about functions performed
by other department and still yet to be performed. In all the departments interlinked with each
other one cannot function without the another. Purchase department is dependent on the planning
department inorder to carryout their tasks such as purchase request. Then only the purchase order
can be placed. To bring the materials in quality department has to do the quality check.Sales
department generate the sale order. It is circulated to all departments. So that they can work
accordingly. The sales consists of project management team which is used to measure the overall
project progress in the company. They will be in contact with all the departments such as
quality, production so that they can measure the progress and generate sale order.Production
department always in contact with the stores department to know the stock level. It is very much
essential for the day to day production.Engineering department is responsible for producing
design of the product. They got approval from the top management and send it to the production
department.Finance department allocate funds for each of the process such as buying

If the employers keep their employees happy, in turn they keeps the employer happy by
the increased productivity. Since, the chosen field is manufacturing sector, this statement
should be stated like “If the employer keeps his/her employees happy, in turn they keeps their
customers happy”. The Velan valves group is the leader in quality management and operation’s
management, people management among other manufacturing industries. These are the major
three core competencies of the organisation. They are moving with the trend, keep leading
