WE, THE COOPERATIVES IN MINDANAO

1. Recognize that power is an enabling factor for socio economic development in THE ISLAND OF
Mindanao AND THE COUNTRY.
2. Support the advocacy for renewable energy, ESPECIALLY HYDRO POWER, to remain as the primary
source of power for Mindanao in the long-term. We believe that the existing hydro power facilities
in AGUS and PULANGI is a major source of clean power and should be rehabilitated, maintained,
and further developed so it will continue to be the backbone of energy source for Mindanao.
3. Call for a power regime that charges the consumers only to the extent of their actual consumption.
4. Believe that Cooperatives are viable business entities, as exemplified by the success of the leading
cooperatives in the country today.
5. Believe that the Cooperative is a valid and effective business model that promotes wealth creation
and distribution thereby contributing to the poverty eradication program of the government.
6. Believe that the cooperative model is a significant vehicle in bringing about greater democratization
in the development process by putting economic power in the hands of the marginalized, bringing
them to the ranks of the productive middle class.
7. Believe that putting power in the hands of a united movement of consumers through a cooperative
is a must in order to bring about a more equitable economic order.
8. Believe that giving the poor consumers a chance to be able to co-own and manage this important
power generation facility rather than favoring the elite and the oligarchs is a testament to the
government’s goal of restoring social justice and dignity.
9. Believe in the power of a united consumer to co-own the biggest power facility in Mindanao and
contribute in the attainment of energy security in Mindanao.

PRAYER
We call on the government to strongly support the efforts of 1MIECOOP
towards co-owning the AGUS-PULANGI Hydropower Complex. By doing so,
we usher in an era where the tri-people of Mindanao are free from the
oppressive market forces that are hemorrhaging the poor sectors of its
resources and means of decent living.
We call upon our leaders and officials in Congress, the National
Government, the Government Agencies and the Local Government Units to
support the cooperative movement as we take on the challenge of becoming
a more responsible, effective and responsive COOPERATIVE MOVEMENT
THAT TRULY SERVES THE NEEDS AND ASPIRATIONS OF ITS MEMBERS.
