Senior:_Sarah Lewis Topic: Making Glass Beads at the Torch Evaluation Due: Dec. 26
Please verify this student’s efforts on his/her Graduation Project by answering the following:

Verify the number of HOURS spent WITH YOU during Practical Experience completion: 15 TOTAL

Did the senior INTERVIEW you for his/her research paper? X YES __NO
On what DATES did you meet with the senior? June 27; Nov. 16, 28; Dec. 12, 13, 20.

Did the senior have you evaluate the practical experience at VARIOUS STAGES? X YES __NO

Please describe HOW YOU HELPED the senior fulfill the practical experience portion of the project.

At each meeting I would demonstrate and explain how to achieve the outcome she desired.

What were some of the senior’s greatest CHALLENGES AND/OR SUCCESSES throughout the project?

Sarah is a curious young woman and she does not shy away from a challenge. She inquired about fairly
complex techniques and then attempted to complete them.

In what ways do you feel your senior has grown as a young adult throughout this process? How will he/she
be able to utilize his/her newly acquired skills and/or knowledge AFTER GRADUATION?

The area of glasswork—lampworking--that Sarah chose could possibly become an avocation as opposed to
an occupation. I believe it could serve her well as someone working in the sciences should have a basis in
the arts. It will continue to help her think creatively.

How would you rate your mentee’s overall performance on the Practical Experience?
(circle one) Highly Proficient / Proficient / Developing Proficiency / Not Proficient

Please justify your answer:

I feel that Sarah has developed a good proficiency for the time that she worked on the project. To become
highly proficient in this craft would require a considerably longer period of time. We also spent more time
on how to manipulate molten glass in creative ways as opposed to simply developing technical skills.
