RFM is a unique high-strength composite material that allows for designs

The most common type of skim dam is the floating type. Floating dams are
typically hung from the casting distribution trough / launder by small chains
or wires. The depth of penetration into the molten metal for a floating dam
is governed by the skim dam's buoyancy. Skim dams can also be rigidly
mounted.

SKIM DAM COATINGS


• Provides an improved non-wetting property to the refractory to
prevent oxides and molten metal from adhering to the skim dam.
This reduces cleaning related damage, preserves the skim dam shape,
allows oxide and dross removal after each cast, and keeps oxides
from building up
• Protects the skim dam from chemical corrosion and abrasive erosion
by forming an inert and renewable layer
• Recommended maintenance includes cleaning and recoating using
ZYP Boron Nitride Lubricoat-Blue®
• With proper maintenance, service life of the RFM skim dam can be
extended to twice as long as board or cast refractory materials
