History of college

Clemson was founded in 1889 by Thomas Green Clemson. He left his home and fortune
to the state of South Carolina to create the institution that bears his name. The school was
originally an all-male, all-white military school. Clemson became a coeducational, civilian
institution in 1955. The institution became Clemson University in 1964.

Description of College
Clemson is ranked as the 23rd best national public university by U.S News & World
Report. Clemson is a science and engineering oriented college dedicated to teaching, research,
and service. 92% of seniors say they would pick Clemson again if they had to start over. The
campus has 1,400 acres of land in the Blue Ridge Mountains. There are research facilities
throughout the state of South Carolina. Clemson has an annual $1.9 billion economic impact on
the state. The clemson family impacts lives daily with their teaching, research, and service.

Application Materials
The average GPA of accepted students is 3.72. This means an average accepted
student has a mix of A’s and B’s with more overall A’s. The average acceptance rate is 51%.
The average SAT score is 1310 of accepted students. The average ACT score is 29 of
accepted students.

Academics
Clemson offers more than 80 different undergraduate majors. Students are required to
pick a major when applying for the college, but there are many broad areas they can apply for
before picking a specific major. Clemson also has many options for minor degrees.

Surrounding Area Activities


Almost everything in clemson is in walking distance. Guests can enjoy wireless and
high-speed Internet access, an outdoor swimming pool, a fitness room, tennis courts, on-site
restaurant and lounge, and complimentary continental breakfast. Clemson University’s Outdoor
Lab also offers accommodations that let you enjoy the beauty of the Upstate, with cabins, suites
and campsites.

Financial Aid and Scholarships


The Free Application for Federal Student Aid is available. The form must be filled out by
March 1st and other loans must be available for payment for the fall semester. Clemson offers
athletic scholarships, restricted scholarships, diversity scholarships, and academic scholarships.
Scholarships must be applied for by December 1st with a completed application and have forms
completed by December 31st. Academic scholarships are the most popular at Clemson.

Career Services
Clemson has a computer science degree, which I am trying to get. The placement rate is
listed as very high. Clemson graduates are finding jobs at twice the national average. Clemson
is ranked Number 1 in the nation on The Princeton Review's list of schools offering the best
career services.
Social Activities
Clemson has more than 400 student clubs and organizations to join, you have many
opportunities to get involved, become a leader, broaden your cultural and social experiences,
play a sport and make new friends. Clemson offers many chances for community service
around the campus. Clemson competes in 8 Division I-A men’s sports and 9 Division I-A
women’s sports, but if you’re not looking to compete on the varsity level, Clemson has more
than 40 club sports and an active intramural program.

On campus living
The Clemson dorms are made safe. All of Housing’s multilevel buildings are equipped
with sprinklers and life safety systems. The University has its own police force on duty 24 hours,
seven days a week and its own fire department and EMS service. There are different housing
developments to choose, depending on where your classes are and how many people you want
to live next to. Students can request roommates, if it is mutual. Single rooms are available, but
very limited. You can request a new roommate by emailing the housing office. You may not
have weapons on campus. No illegal drugs are allowed. The campus how many different
locations with ATM’s available.

Meal plans
There are 9 meal plans available. Ranging from unlimited food at the dining hall to
paying for each meal individually. There are many different restaurants and dining halls
available on campus. The dining halls offer a large menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Most
dining halls are closed by 9:00, but there are other restaurants that are open for longer.
