because of the Islamic rule by Mahmud of Ghazna
and his successors. The rulers viewed themselves as foreign conquerors. They tried to keep strict separation between the hindu believers and the muslims. Many muslim rulers didnt agree with the hindu believers but since there were so many, so they accepted the religious difference. Most of the Indians farmed their own tiny land. The rulers in southeast asia had had 100,000 soldiers and and 900 elephants along with 20,000 horses. Another king had high caste women sweep his palace. Because of the location they were in the center of the trade routes. During the this period though the trade declined because of all the fighting that was going on among the states. However the trade was still high in in the south and northwestern coast. These areas are both located on the traditional trade routes. In these southeast states they were formed by the use of Chinas and Indias models. Most of the southeast asia is a chain of islands. In southeast asia there is a mixture of races, cultures, and religions. Because of the mountainous ranges this might explain why asia was never unified under one rule. There were two main groups the agriculture group and the trading societies. Most of the societies in southeast asia gave greater rights to women. A lot of women worked side by side with the men and did a lot of trading activities.
