Assignment 2:

XEDU-10004-1 Technology in the classroom
December 14, 2017
Rationale
When integrating technology into a classroom, you need to be mindful of the grade level
of the student and be sure the program is visually appealing, easy to navigate and rewarding.
In order to integrate technology I would research, become knowledgeable and create a plan to
implement. As an EA, I need to present this to the teacher and have reasons why this
technology could be beneficial to the student(s).
Technology can help students who have learning disabilities be successful which will help
boost their confidence, independence and desire to learn. If used correctly, technology is a way
to keep students engaged. For people with or without disabilities, technology is the future.
Knowing how to use and navigate technology is important and can help in countless ways.

Lesson using Raz-Kids
Title of Book/Lesson: Let's Make Lemonade

Why I choose this book/lesson: It is an appropriate leveled reading book for grade 1 with descriptive words and fun photos.

Grade Level: 1

Subject: Language Arts

Time: Minimum thirty minutes

Learner Outcome: To have the student successfully read and comprehend the story through reading and discussion through
guided reading. Understand what contractions are, how to create them and use them in a sentence.
Lesson Continued
Assessment:
I would use the comprehension quiz provided by the website to give ideas for questions to ask through guided reading. I can
also add more questions about the book using Who, What, Where, When, Why. As an EA, I would use this as a form of
formative assessment.
After reading the story, I would have them write down the steps for making lemonade to show their understanding. Using the
worksheet that is also provided by the website, I would make an activity to work on contractions and have the student make
their own sentence using a contraction.

Differentiation of Instruction:
Depending on the learners needs, I would allow them to hear the book being read by myself or the computer. We could also
take turns reading pages. I could allow for more time, if needed. Etc. If this was a student who has a learning disability or has
trouble printing, I could allow for use of speech to text or I could scribe for him/her.

Resources/Materials:
Whatever technology the school has that allows access to this website; a computer, ipad, chromebook, etc, paper, pencils.
Lesson Continued
Introduction/Hook:
In order to get the students attention for this lesson, I would ask them if they would like to help me read this book. I would
start by saying that I have not read this book before and ask them if they have. I would say Do you think you could help me
read this and learn what this story is about? Children, especially young children, love to help.
*If I have a student who does not have interest in helping, I can ask them if they would like to chose their own book to read.

Closure: I would end this lesson by thanking the student for helping me. I would name one or two specific things that they
made improvements on or did well while working with me. For example, You did an excellent job today sounding out the
letter W. or Thank you for displaying great listening skills today.
