Graham, David A. Whats the Solution to Gun Violence in America. The Atlantic, 27 April

2016. https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2016/03/whats-the-solution-to-gun-

violence/462537/ This article about finding a solution to gun violence in America is

explaining-with a couple graphs-the decrease in gun crime over the years. Also, this article

is mentioning Obamas background check ideas that will help owning a gun more

difficult, or to make it more safe for the right people to own a gun. To add, this

informative article is stating facts about gun violence. For instance, alcohol and drug

abuse is more likely to be the cause of gun violence rather than people with mental

illnesses. Next, increasing the amount of gun ownership does, in fact, lower the amount of

gun violence. The stricter the gun laws are the lower the crime, because if it is more

difficult to own a gun then the ownership of guns will reduce. Another way to prevent gun

violence is to reduce the amount of guns over all. This source is credible and reliable,

because it is informative and logical, and the layout is set up well.

Guns and Gun Control. The New York Times, October 2017.

https://www.nytimes.com/topic/subject/guns-and-gun-control This newpaper article is

filled with good amount of smaller articles that are about Gun crime that has happened

recently. For example, the Las Vegas shooting is talking about debating real gun laws to

prevent or solve gun violence in the United States. There are other sources like, Taking

Steps to Reduce Gun Violence, N.R.A and G.O.P., together forever, and Physciatrist cant

stop Mass Killers. These sources can help look at the gun violence topic in different

perspectives and different ways to stop gun crime. This source is credible and reliable

because it has different articles about the topic.

Gun Violence: Facts and Statistics. Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia: Research Institute,

March 2017. https://injury.research.chop.edu/violence-prevention-initiative/types-

violence-involving-youth/gun-violence/gun-violence-facts-and#.Wd4mUBl97rc This

infromative website is mentioning statistics about firearms at home, how to manage your

gun at home to prevent self inflicted and accidental deaths caused by firearms, and assault-

style weapons. For instance, 1.7 million children are around an unlocked and loaded

firearm at their homes. To add, the Sandy Hook school shooting, Adam Lanza fired 150

shots in five minutes from his assault-style rifle with magazines that had full capacity. It

also mentions the amount of gun related deaths and mass shootings in the United States.

Overall, this website is credible and reliable, because it states different facts about guns

and gives good information and examples of why we should have gun control.

Haynes, Victor. Gun Control in the United States. Journal of Political Science & Public Affairs,

11 June 2016. https://www.omicsonline.org/open-access/gun-control-in-the-united-states-

2332-0761-1000206.php?aid=74881 This article over Gun control in the United States is

stating the importance of limited access to gun and to increase gun control. The main issue

is owning a gun without a license and owning a gun with just a license with no other
Chandler 3

regulations. To mention, the United States is the leading country with the most amount of

gun violence, because the United States does not stress strict gun ownership requirements,

unlike other countries. However, there are 20,000 regulations to own a firearm, but it is

not strict enough to stop gun violence. This article also includes public opinion on gun

crimes, racism involved with gun violence, contemporary mass shooting, etc. This peer-

reviewed article is a credible and reliable source, because it has enough information about

gun violence and other gun related topics.

La Valle, James M. Gun Control vs. Self-protection: A Case Against the ideological Divide.

LaValle, vol. 10, no. 1. 2013. http://www.cjcj.org/uploads/cjcj/documents/lavalle.pdf

The article, LaValle, is stating the difference between gun control and self-protection.

There are many different opinions about gun control and self defense. Gun advocates are

arguing gun policies have failed and they only prevent law-abiding citizens from

protecting themselves, and therefore should be abandoned. While gun control supporters

believe that restrictiveness of the gun control should be increased which will overall

increase the body count. This article makes a good point about how robbers or criminals

are not the reason schools, theatres, malls, churches, etc., are being attacked with guns;

rather, it is the mentally ill psychopath that purchased a gun legally. Another example is,

the Virginia Tech shooter purchased a gun legally before killing over 30 innocent people

and himself. Overall, this article is a credible source, because it is explaining both sides of

gun control and self-defense supporters, and how the United States needs new gun

policies, because anyone, even the mentally ill, are somehow purchasing guns and going

on killing sprees in public settings over the past couple decade.

Should guns be banned in America. Debate.org. http://www.debate.org/opinions/should-guns-

be-banned-in-america

This source is a credible survey to the public. The focus question is, Should Guns be

banned? There are a couple good responses on each side. To sum up a few, a citizen who

is for banning guns is explaining that guns are a plague to the United States. He is arguing

that it is way too easy for someone to walk into a gun store and buy a military gun for

under $1000. Another civilian is who is also for the banning of guns is mentioning the 2nd

amendment and how it is not relevant to the 21st century, because there are police officers

now to control violence. Next, someone who is against the banning of guns is stating

banning guns will only make criminals turn to something else like drugging, knives, cars,

etc., and banning guns will not stop people from using them just like drugs. Altogether,

this empirical source is a good reliable source, because they are United States citizens

opinions on this topic.

State Law Background, Giffords Law center to prevent Gun Violence.

http://smartgunlaws.org/gun-laws/state-law/ohio/

This article is listing the laws Ohio does not have for guns. For example, Ohio

does not require a background check, limit the number of firearms purchased at a

time, allow governments to regulate firearms, and many more. This article is a

good credible source, because it lists the regulations Ohio does not require to own

a gun, and the article lists other statistics about guns crimes over the past decade.
