Innovating a Story

We have been reading the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears this week to begin
our new project. So far we have read two versions of the story and have begun trying
to identify some of the di erences between the stories.

During Centers Time, Daniel, Isidora and Laura explored the story and innovated the
story by using other animals in place of the characters in the original story.

Isidora created the story of the zebra and the three gira es.

Daniel created the story about the two cheetahs. He said it would have been three
cheetahs, however there are only two cheetahs in the classroom.
Laura created the story of the three elephants.
Daniel, Isidora and Laura were able to deepen their understanding of The Three Bears
story by using their imagination to creatively reinterpret the original story through
play.

Play such as this allowed the students to engage with the following identi ed
assessment standards:

K1.APL.1 I can make choices for myself

K1.APL.4 I can explore and use di erent materials creatively

K1.APL.7 I can help to keep the classroom organized

K1.Lang.2.1 I can use words to tell a story
