The refrigeration cycle which was observed in the lab had a number of variables which
give a deviation when calculating the COP using experimental data. This deviation is a result of
measuring equipment. When performing the calculations, the values used were ones that were
obtained from the experiment. However, when performing calculations in class, its assumed to
have an ideal refrigeration cycle. In which there are a few assumptions to help make the
calculations easier.
ERROR
The flow meter that were used In the refrigeration cycle was not functioning when we were
doing the experiment. So as the lab technician had advised we had to assume the value as 1L/M.
Computer
We cant see the visual animation of the flow and the reading accurately of the system because
the computer doesnt function properly, so we need to refer the meters in the refrigeration
system apparatus as an option.
Although the collection of data, and the calculations were performed with the utmost of
care, the values obtained from the actual refrigerator will not be equal to those of the ideal
refrigerator. The differences may be associated with the accuracy of the measuring equipment,
and the methods used, which would impact the calculated COP values. In the calculations, the
data used were actual field measurements. However the calculations used in the classroom are
performed with the ideal refrigerator, where reasonable assumptions are made. In an effort to
make calculations easier, one of the assumptions made is that there are no irreversibilitys, which
will result in a greater COP values.
CONCLUSION
From this experiment we had learnt that the refrigeration system is a process of removing
heat from a low-temperature reservoir and transferring it to a high-temperature reservoir. Other
than that we also had understood the flow of the refrigerant in a circuit and how does the water
act and changes its characteristic in each and every phase in refrigeration system such as
compression and condensation. We also had able to understand what does it mean COP and
overall efficiency in a refrigeration system.
