'78 WAS GREAT

The Wizards announced that they will be celebrating the 40th anniversary of the team's lone NBA Championship this
season. March 23-25 will serve as the culmination of the celebration, with members of the 1978 championship
team returning for festivities throughout the weekend (including the retirement of Phil Cheniers #45 jersey
on March 23). Highlights, achievements and memories of the 1978 team will be recognized on the Wizards
social media platforms throughout the season with the hashtag #Bullets40.

THIS WEEK IN 1977-78

Despite Elvin Hayes contributing 27 points, Bob Dandridge adding 26, and Tom Henderson chipping in 10
points, the 15-8 Washington Bullets would lose to the last-place New Jersey Nets 106-95. The Bullets would
then bounce back with a strong effort in a 102-96 victory against the Golden State Warriors. Three Bullets play-
ers led the way as Chenier, Dandridge, and Hayes all scored 20+ points. On December 16, 1977, the Bullets started
a four-game west-coast road trip by facing off against the 18-11 Denver Nuggets. With the help of Elvin Hayes 33
points, the Bullets would win their second overtime game of the season 117-112, giving them a 17-9 season record.
