I believe that my involvement in contributing to writing a paper to be presented at
the 2017 Westcast conference illustrates that I have achieved TRB standard 8. Westcast is a yearly educational conference in which delegates come from various places which includes both Canada and across the world to attend. Essentially, it is a forum where delegates do workshops and lectures on a number of subjects. As is the case with most educational conferences, this is an opportunity to put forward innovative educational philosophies and/methodologies. This year Westcast came to Vancouver Island University and therefore we were given the chance to present a paper. The central concept devised by the lecturer who introduced it to us was that we worked in groups in order to devise and discuss ideas for a potential paper. There was a great deal of emphasis on the chance to experiment with and devise new teaching methodologies. This was important, as there would have been no other chance during our teacher training. In the context of TRB standard 8, this was also an excellent chance to contribute to the profession. The methodology we put forward was how a primary source could be reinterpreted through other mediums. These included musical, visual arts, poetry, and fiction. In theory, we believed that this was an excellent way in which to appeal to different learning styles and give students a chance to present their best work.Prior to Westcast we were given a chance to experiment in a live situation. This was called the Education Expo where groups comprised from all three cohorts were able to present their ideas as either a group or as an individual in various mediums. This included posters, lectures and interactive pieces. Supplementing this was that the lecturer who had organised the expo would assess each presentation and offer advice in the way of improvements. After This the suggested improvements were made in order to convert our interactive presentation After consultation between our group regarding the improvements to the paper, the final paper was presented at the conference. Although, I did not attend Westcast I contributed a great deal to the final paper presented at the conference. As I was the source of the central idea I believe that my involvement was significant enough to achieve TRB standard 8.
