GROUP ASSIGNMENT-
CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY (CSR)
OBJECTIVE

CO1 Study the reasoning informed by contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety,
legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to professional
engineering practice. [PO6, LO5, SS3];{ A3}.

INSTRUCTIONS

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is the concept whereby companies act to balance their
own economic growth with the sustainable social and environmental development of their
areas of operation. The student shall form a team of max 6 persons per group. Students are
expected to carry out systematic steps which may include:

1. Research on CSR
The team needs to clearly understand the principle underlying CSR activities, the benefits and
challenges as well as how other peoples are doing it in Malaysia as well as all over the world.

2. Identify Social Issue/ problem


Based on either local or international issue, suggest at least 1 problem that your team think is
worth to work on through CSR program. As far as possible, the selected CSR activities should
have a measurable impact and sustainable concern to the society preferably associated with
profession as an Engineer. Each lecture can decide a specific area of CSR to be carried out
by the students or can open for the student to find the issue on their own. Some examples of
CSR activities are listed at APPENDIX 1.

3. Planning & Budget


List out all the activities to carry out the CSR program from the initial set-up of the team,
execution, monitoring until measurement of the performance. The team may also involve
other related organizations such as NGOs or clubs that willing to work together for your team
CSR program. The planning also may includes the budget and sponsorship from external
parties.

4. Communicate and inspire


Come out with innovative and creative idea how to communicate and inspire others people
and the society at large to understand, support and participate in your team CSR program.
Examples through social media you tube, face book, Instagram etc.

Reminder: There are no assessment mark (ZERO) will be given to students who fail to
participate in CSR activities.

ASSESSMENT

Part 1- INTERIM REPORT


I. The students need to write an interim report that consists of problem identification,
planning and development related to CSR program. Which need to be submitted
before midterm break (latest 13 Oct)
II. Carry out a site visit and meeting that facilitate the CSR program.
III. Create and publish the public awareness and promotion on the CSR program-
promote your program to the public.

PART 2- FINAL REPORT


i. Conduct and involve in an actual CSR program
ii. The students need to write the report that consists of Implementation & monitoring
plan- an actual CSR program. The report should include the impact and sustainability
of CSR program. Which need to be submitted before study week (latest 22 Dec)
IV. Create and publish the public awareness of the CSR program- share the impact and
sustainability of your CSR program to public.
V. Attached the Interim report at your appendix.
