Experiences and accomplishments

Volunteer work as a dish washer at a fundraiser for W.G. Murdoch high school band.
Volunteer work as a dish washer at a fundraiser for an Olympic athlete.
Volunteer work at Bingos for my fencing club.
Volunteer work to help at fencing competitions at Collicut Centre.
Helping my fencing coach teach younger less experienced fencers, for Alberta Modern
Pentathlon Association.
o I have worked with athletes as young as 6 to 18 years old. I havent coached at
competitions, but being an athlete myself I have experience with the stress of
competition. I am straight forward and expect respect; however I am kind and
respect my athletes as well.
Volunteer work helping at the Third Academy as a helper
o The volunteer work was with a student with special needs. This particular student
had trouble enunciating her words and saying certain sounds for words. I worked
with this student until Third Academy closed in 2010. Her teachers and her
mother had told me that the work I did with her helped and that she spoke much
better than before I started working with her.
o Having two autistic brothers helps me as a teacher because I understand that they
may not think how most other students do. I have a certain amount of patience
and empathy for students with special needs. I am willing to help them be the best
they can be, as I am with other students.
Worked at Marble Slab Creamery for almost two years
Currently working at Costco Wholesale as a Front end Assistant
Worked at Edible Arrangements for the Christmas season
Canadian Champion in Youth A category in Modern Pentathlon in 2010.
Only female Canadian athlete to compete at the Universitadie Games in Shenzhen China
in 22 Calibre Pistol and Air Pistol in 2012.
Volunteered though Costco Wholesale, tutoring elementary students
o The students that I tutored through this program were refugee students from Syria.
I worked with a student from grade four in spelling, reading and speaking.
Although my tutoring work was cut short by my own schooling, I am happy to
say that she was able to complete with another colleague of mine. Working one
on one with this student helped me with learning different strategies in teaching
ESL students.
Practicum Placement in Education 2500, in R.J. Hawkey Elementary school, Airdre
Alberta in a grade four classroom June 2017.
o The students in the school that I was placed in were difficult. Being in a grade
four classroom I was a little more comfortable because I had worked with
students this age for a long time. However, there were a few students that I could
see were in need of extra aid and I admit that I loved these students. I understood
why they were deemed difficult but working one on one with these students
helped me understand them and I enjoyed my time with them.
Practicum Placement in Professional Semester, in Upland Elementary in Brooks Alberta,
in grade one, November to December 2017.\
o This practicum placement was really out of my comfort zone because I had only
worked with student this young a couple of times. However, although the subjects
were pretty much as basic as they can get, I realize that I enjoyed working with
the students and my TA much more than I had originally thought. I had to work
very hard to make sure I made lessons that were interesting for them, but I will
admit that I was very sad when I left. This experience helped me become more
confidant in my own teaching ability and I enjoyed it much more than I had
originally thought.
