in the FT/OT. After YHWH, God ('elohim), and son, the term "king" is the fourth most
frequently occurring noun in the FT, even more frequent than Israel. If you don't have a
concordance, you may use the Bible Works in the computer lab or go to

See what references to YHWH as king, ruler, YHWH's rule, reign, etc. you can find. (If you list
the references in some way, give me a copy and I will make copies for the class or post to
Moodle.)

SHEPHERD:
Gen 48:15 He blessed Joseph, and said, The God before whom my ancestors Abraham and Isaac
walked, the God who has been my shepherd all my life to this day,
Gen 49:24 Yet his bow remained taut, and his arms were made agile by the hands of the Mighty One of
Jacob, by the name of the shepherd, the Rock of Israel,
Isa 40:11 He will feed his flock like a shepherd; he will gather the lambs in his arms, and carry them
in his bosom, and gently lead the mother sheep.
Jere 13:17 But if you will not listen, my soul will weep in secret for your pride; my eyes will weep
bitterly and run down with tears, because the LORDs flock has been taken captive.
Jere 23:1-3 Woe to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! says the LORD.
Therefore thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, concerning the shepherds who shepherd my people:
It is you who have scattered my flock, and have driven them away, and you have not attended to them.
So I will attend to you for your evil doings, says the LORD. Then I myself will gather the remnant of
my flock out of all the lands where I have driven them, and I will bring them back to their fold, and
they shall be fruitful and multiply.
Jere 31:10 Hear the word of the LORD, O nations, and declare it in the coastlands far away; say, He
who scattered Israel will gather him, and will keep him as a shepherd a flock.
Ezeke 34:11-16 For thus says the Lord GOD: I myself will search for my sheep, and will seek them
out. As shepherds seek out their flocks when they are among their scattered sheep, so I will seek out
my sheep. I will rescue them from all the places to which they have been scattered on a day of clouds
and thick darkness. I will bring them out from the peoples and gather them from the countries, and will
bring them into their own land; and I will feed them on the mountains of Israel, by the watercourses,
and in all the inhabited parts of the land. I will feed them with good pasture, and the mountain heights
of Israel shall be their pasture; there they shall lie down in good grazing land, and they shall feed on
rich pasture on the mountains of Israel. I myself will be the shepherd of my sheep, and I will make
them lie down, says the Lord GOD. I will seek the lost, and I will bring back the strayed, and I will
bind up the injured, and I will strengthen the weak, but the fat and the strong I will destroy. I will feed
them with justice.
Mic3 7:14 shepherd your people with your staff, the flock that belongs to you, which lives alone in a
forest in the midst of a garden land; let them feed in Bashan and Gilead as in the days of old.
Ps 23:1-4 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside still waters;
he restores my soul. He leads me in right paths for his names sake.
Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil;
for you are with me; your rod and your staff they comfort me.
Ps 28:9 O save your people, and bless your heritage; be their shepherd, and carry them forever.
Ps 74:1 O God, why do you cast us off forever? Why does your anger smoke against the sheep of your
pasture?
Ps 78:52-55 Then he led out his people like sheep,
and guided them in the wilderness like a flock.
He led them in safety, so that they were not afraid;
but the sea overwhelmed their enemies.
And he brought them to his holy hill,
to the mountain that his right hand had won.
He drove out nations before them;
he apportioned them for a possession and settled the tribes of Israel in their tents.
Ps 80:1 Give ear, O shepherd of Israel, you who lead Joseph like a flock! You who are enthroned upon
the cherubim, shine forth

O that today you would listen to his voice!
Ps 100:3 Know that the LORD is God. It is he that made us, and we are his;
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
