3. REQUIREMENT CRITERIA
3.1 Critical Line Selection Criteria

Formal stress analysis is not required for piping system that meet following requirement:

Duplicates, or replace without significant change, a system operating with successful service record

Can be readily be judge adequate by comparison with previously analyzed system

It is laid out with a conservative margin of inherent flexibility, or employs joining methods or
expansion joint devices, or a combination of these methods

Formal stress analysis shall be performed for critical piping system, such as:

PIPING STRESS ANALYSIS
M1M2-CAL-30-01-A4 CHAMBER PAGES: 6 of 13

Lines with temperature equal to or above 180oC, and NPS equal to or larger than 6

Hydrocarbon lines NPS 4 and larger, connected to strain sensitive equipments such as rotating
machinery (pumps, compressors, turbines, fans, and etc) and heat exchanger.

Hydrocarbon lines NPS 2 and larger, connected to reciprocating equipment.

High pressure piping 600# with temperature above 302 oF for size 3-12 and all condition for size
12 above

Line 18 and larger with temperature 104oF and above.

Line with temperature above 122oF, if made of non-ferrous materials

Line with temperature above 212oF, if made of non-metallic materials.

Any other lines which might operate under particulary severe conditions.

Lines subjected to Dynamic Force, Reaction Force (e.g from Relief Valves)

All Process piping connected to pressure vessel designed to ASME VIII, Div.2, or heavy wall BS 4500

Piping material shall be in accordance with doc. no. M1M2-SP-30-02-A4 General Specification for
Piping. If formal analysis is required then it shall be performed using computerized tool. The
calculation will be using CAESAR II version 5.3, software developed by integraph and the analysis
use the following coordinates :

NORTH (-X) +Y

+Z +X

3.3 Input Analysis

3.3.1 Minimum ambient temperature used for

calculations during installation used at 18.6 C.

3.3.2 Design pressure shall be taken as the

pressure for piping flexibility analysis calculation unless otherwise specified. Pressure used for
hydrostatic test pressure is 1.5 design.

3.3.3 Threading allowances as per ASME B31.4

shall be considered for thickness calculation of such piping. Threaded connection shall be in
accordance with ASME B1.20.1. Coefficient of Wind Shape : 0.65

API RP 2A will be taken as wind load parameter

Basic wind speed is 130 km/h.

3.3.4 Based on Indonesia Earthquake Zoning Map

of the Ministry of public Works published in the year 2010, Soekarno-Hatta International
Airport area are in zones with Peak Ground Acceleration in bedrock in the range 0.4-0.5 g
where the map has a probability of exceeding of 10% om a span of 50%. 0.75 g has been
taken into calculation.

3.3.5 Friction effect shall be included in the thermal

expansion and contraction analysis for all size lines. Friction force shall be calculated based
on the properties of the sliding surface and contact material. The following static friction
coefficient shall be used :

3.4 Acceptance Criteria

3.4.1 Basic allowable stress value shall be taken in

ASME B31.4 para. 402.3.1. Allowable stresses are the limit acceptable values of stress
analysis result for all cases as per ASME B31.4 code. Definition of allowable stress for all
cases are presented on the following section.

Allowable Expansion Stresses

a. Restrained line shall not exceed 90% of SMYS (Sy).

b. Unrestrained line shall not exceed 72% of SMYS (Sy).

Additive Longitudinal Stresses

Sum of longitudinal stresses shall not exceed 75% of SMYS (Sy).

3.4.2 Force and moments due to weight, expansion

loads and other loads imposed will be considered with the type and allowable of support.

3.4.3 Deformation of piping system to be checked

for operating case and to be ensured that piping system movement are limited by installing
sufficient guide and line support.
