after the holiday break. You may
want to purchase some Ear Buds
for your students stocking to send
so they have their own. I have
several pair we share but if you prefer
your student have their own you

Christmas Party Our party will
take place on Thursday at 1:00.
I love Friday to do some themed
activities with my students and
having it be semi-relaxed. We take
time to bring home our Christmas
art & projects and to enjoy each
other!

are pulling your kids early for
break or not returning on time
please let me know! It helps me
to plan and know who is missing
what! WE will be learning NEW
material Jan. 4 & 5 and preparing
for our mid-year testing!

Reading/Language Arts
Our learning targets for reading this week have included:
*long a vowel sound made by the CVCe pattern
*c/s/ in face, circle; g/j/ in giraffe, cage
*blending words.
*rhyming words
*understanding syllables
*understanding cause/effect in our reading
*learning new vocabulary.
*being able to identify proper nouns
*reading just right books
Our Writing learning targets have focused on:
*writing a brief composition! A composition is focused on one topic and
has 3 or more interesting facts. Our question this week is about how our
school is like a community so our topic was to write about a way we work
together at school. Some have written about how they work together to
play basketball, in computers, during seat work time, or to clean up at the
end of the day! Organization has been our writing trait focus!
MY COMPLEMENTS to our kids for basically doing 5 days of work in 4 with
our snow day!

Math
Mid-Year Testing/Holiday Break We began Unit 4! We are
learning about teen numbers and
IMPORTANT: In January, the week of
place value!This weeks math
January 8 we will do our mid-year
testing. JUST a reminder that we add learning targets have focused on:
our NEW Assessment called ORF (oral *recognize ten as a group of ten
reading fluency). The winter goal to ones
be at grade level is 23 wpm (words per *counting decade numbers (10,
minute) with 96% accuracy, on grade 20, 30 . . .)
level material. I will let you know this
*recognizing teen numbers as 1
week if your child is borderline in
ten and some ones
meeting that goal! Students who do
*representing teen numbers with
not meet that goal will be placed in
Interventions Groups and monitored sticks/circles
until they are achieving the goal. The *comparing teen numbers using
