viShNubrahmasurendrasevitapadAM tatvasvarUpAM shivAM teeth and decorated with reddish silk , having the feet worshipped by Vishnu,
Brahma and Indra, Who is the consort of Lord Shiva and is of the form of the
mInAkShIM praNato.asmi santatamahaM kAruNyavArAnnidhim || 1 || reality and auspicious.
muktAhAralasatkirITarucirAM pUrNenduvaktraprabhAM I remain ever bowing to that (goddess) Meenakshi, shining with crown radiant with
the decoration of pearls, whose shining face is similar to full-moon, and wearing
shi~njannUpurakiN^kinimaNidharAM padmaprabhAbhAsurAm | the tinkling anklets and gem-studded bells and is shining with the splendour of the
lotus, who bestows upon us all objects of our desire and is worshipped by
sarvAbhIShTaphalapradAM girisutAM vANIramAsevitAM Saraswati and Ramaa.
mInAkShIM praNato.asmi santatamahaM kAruNyavArAnnidhim || 2 ||
I remain ever bowing to that (goddess) Meenakshi, who is the treasure house of
shrIvidyAM shivavAmabhAganilayAM hrIMkAramantrojjvalAM mercy and is the sacred knowledge (Sri Vidya), who dwells on the left-side of Lord
shrIcakrAN^kitabindumadhyavasatiM shrImatsabhAnAyakIm | Shiva and shines in the sacred syllable of Hreem, residing in the sacred dot
(Bindu) in the holy design of Sri Chakra. (She is) the queen gracing the court of
shrImatShaNmukhavighnarAjajananIM shrImajjaganmohinIM Lord Shiva and is the mother of six faced Shanmuka , and the master of obstacles
(Vinayaka) , and also who enchants the world.
mInAkShIM praNato.asmi santatamahaM kAruNyavArAnnidhim || 3 ||
shrImatsundaranAyakIM bhayaharAM j~nAnapradAM nirmalAM I remain ever bowing to that (goddess) Meenakshi, the consort of Lord Sundaresa,
who removes fear and bestows knowledge, and frees (the devotes) from
shyAmAbhAM kamalAsanArcitapadAM nArAyaNasyAnujAm |
impurities, having dark blue colour with her feet worshipped by god (Brahma) , that
vINAveNum.rdaN^gavAdyarasikAM nAnAvidhADAmbikAM sister of Lord Narayana (is) fond of enjoying music from Veena, drum and flute,
and who is the mother of varied aspects.
mInAkShIM praNato.asmi santatamahaM kAruNyavArAnnidhim || 4 ||
I remain ever bowing to that (goddess) Meenakshi, who is dwelling in the hearts of
nAnAyogimunIndrah.rnnivasatIM nAnArthasiddhipradAM multitude of Yogis and great sages, who bestows wealth and ocuult powers, her
feet shining with (the radiance of) various flowers, (herself) being worshipped by
nAnApuShpavirAjitAN^ghriyugaLAM nArAyaNenArcitAm | Lord Narayana, she is the all pervasive sound, higher than the high and is the
nAdabrahmamayIM parAtparatarAM nAnArthatatvAtmikAM underlying force in all objects.
For shelter in this world, I resort to that Lakshmi who is beautiful like the moon,
Chandrm prabhsm yahas jvalantm hriyam lke deva justm who shines bright, who is blazing with renown, who is adored (even) by the gods,
who is highly magnanimous, and grand like the lotus. May my misfortunes perish. I
udrm surrender myself to Thee. O Thou, resplendent like the Sun! By Thy power and
Tm padminim-m saranam aham prapadye' alakshmr me nayatm tvm glory have the plants, (like) the bael tree, grown up. May the fruits thereof destroy
through Thy Grace all inauspiciousness rising from the inner organs and ignorance
vrne | (5) as well as from the outer senses.
ditya varne tapas dhijt vanaspatis tava vriksh' tha bilvah
Tasya phalani taps nudantu mayntarys cha bhya alakshmh|| (6)
O Lakshmi! I am born in this country with the heritage of wealth. May the friend of
Upaitu mm deva-sakah krtis cha manin saha
the Lord Siva (Kubera) and Kirti (fame) come to me. May these (having taken their
Prdr bht' smi rashtre' smin krtim riddhim dadtu me| (7) abode with me) bestow on me fame and prosperity. I shall destroy the elder sister
of Lakshmi, the embodiment of inauspiciousness and such evil as hunger, thirst,
Kshut pips-amalm jyesthm alakshmm nshaymy aham and the like. O Lakshmi! Drive out from my abode all misfortune and poverty.
Abhtim asamriddhim cha sarvn nirnuda me grihat|| (8)
I invoke hereby that Lakshmi (Shri), whose (main) avenue of perception is the
odoriferous sense (i.e., who abides mainly in cows); who is incapable of defeat or
Gandha dvrm dur dharhm nitya-pushtm karshinm threat from anyone; who is ever healthy (with such virtuous qualities as truth);
whose grace is seen abundantly in the refuse of cows (the cows being sacred);
Ihvargm sarva bhtnm tm ih pahvaye hriyam| (9) and who is supreme over all created beings. O Lakshmi! May we obtain and enjoy
Manasah kmam ktm vcah satyam ashmahi the fulfilment of our desires and our volitions, the veracity of our speech, the wealth
of cattle, the abundance of varieties of food to eat! May prosperity and fame reside
Pahngm rpam annasya mayi rh shrayatm yahah|| (10) in me (thy devotee)!
Kardamen praja-bht mayi sambhava kardama Lakshmi! You have progeny in Kardama. (Hence) O Kardama, may you reside in
me. Make Mother Shri with garlands of lotuses, to have Her abode in my
riyam vsaya me kule mtaram padma-mlinm| (11) (ancestral) line. May the (holy) waters create friendship (they being of an adhesive
pah srijantu snigdhni chiklta vasa me grihe nature). O Chiklita (Progeny of Shri), reside in my home; and arrange to make
Divine Mother Shri to stay in my lineage!
Nicha devm mtaram hriyam vsaya me kule|| (12)
Ardm pushkarinm pushtim suvarnm hema-mlinm Invoke for me, O Agni, Lakshmi who shines like gold, is brilliant like the sun, who is
powerfully fragrant, who wields the rod of suzerainty, who is of the form of
Srym hiran-maym lakshmm jtaved ma vaha| (13) supreme rulership, who is radiant with ornaments and is the goddess of wealth.
rdhm yah karinm yashtim pingalm padma mlinm Invoke for me, O Agni, the Goddess Lakshmi who shines like gold, blooms like the
moon, who is fresh with anointment (of fragrant scent), who is adorned with the
Chandrm hiran-maym lakshmm jtaved ma vaha|| (14) lotuses (lifted up by celestial elephants in the act of worship), who is the presiding
deity of nourishment, who is yellow in colour, and who wears garlands of lotuses.
Om mah-devyai cha vidmahe, vishnu-patnaiya cha dhmahi We commune ourselves with the Great Goddess, and meditate on the Consort of
Tanno Lakshmh prachdayt || (16) Vishnu. May that Lakshmi direct us (to the Great Goal)
