VI. Pre-Lesson assignments and/or prior knowledge:

The students will read a book about apple seeds. The students will also read a book

about making a fruit salad. The teacher will talk about how an apple tree grows from

planting an apple seed you get from the inside of an apple core. We will talk about

different measurement of history, science, literacy and how to properly read and

record them.

VII. Lesson Beginning:

We are going to excite the children by telling them we are going to on a field trip to

the apple orchard. We are going to know what its like to be on a farm and pretend we

are farmers. We are going to pick apples at the orchard. We are going to sort out

different kinds of apples and well be sorting, counting, modeling. Well be using our

senses in touching, smelling, and tasting the apples. Well be sorting apple seeds
putting them in water and when the roots grow well be putting them in soil pots add

water and put them on the window ledge and wait for the sunshine to grow a tiny

apple tree. We will show the children the process how the seed is planted and cared

for to sprout into a tree. Next, we will wash the fruit and make a fruit salad and well

be using motor skills while making the recipe. There will be music playing by The

Wiggles called Fruit Salad.

VIII. Instruction Plan:

Teacher, students, and 4 class moms went on a field trip to an apple orchard to pick

apples. We left the school at 9:30 a.m. and arrived at the farm at 10:00 a.m. The

children could pick apples, put them in their own apple bag, purchase them at the

cashiers register and then headed back to school.

1. Students will be put into groups of five. There will be five centers total. Each

center will receive sorted apples.

2. Bowls will be given to one center filled with water.

3. Apples and plastic utensils will be given to another center.

4. Apples and forks will be given to another center.

5. Bowls and other fruits will be given to another center.

6. Paper and pencils will be given to all centers to draw their favorite kind of apple.

7. Children will draw the four stages of planting an apple seed and make a booklet.

8. Explain how to sort the same apples.

9. Explain how to count the apples.

10. Explain how to observe the fruits different colors, shapes.

11. Center 1 will be washing the apples in a large bowl filled with fresh water.
12. Center 2 will be Cutting apples with the assistance of teacher helper #1.

13. Center 3 will be mixing the different types of apples in a large bowl.

14. Center 4 will be cutting bananas, grapes

15.Center 1 will wash the apples in the bowl and walk the fruit over to center 2 to cut

The fruit with the teachers assistance help.

16. Center 3 will be mixing the different apples in a large bowl.

17. Center 4 will be serving the apples to the different groups.

18. Center 5 will be cutting up other fruit bananas and grapes and add to group 4s

Apples and make a delicious healthy fruit salad.

19.The teacher played a song by the Wiggles called Fruit salad

20. After the children walk back to their centers. The children serve themselves a

Owl of fruit. When the children are done eating, they throw their garbage away by

Walking over to the garbage can.

21.After they walk back to their centers the teacher reads to them a book called

Johnny Appleseed. The children listen attentively raise their hands and are ready for discussion

of what they saw and experienced at the orchard.

IX. Conclusion:

Students will share what they made and sort, count and feel the apples. They will

Discuss which apples they like the best. A Red Delicious, a Granny Smith, a Golden
Delicious. We will talk about the importance of how farmers plant apple seeds and then

How the apple tree grows. We will talk about the importance of measurements, shapes,

Sorting, counting, feeling, tasting and how these senses we use in ever day life. We

Will discuss how much fun it is to make our own fruit salad and to choose our favorite

Tasting apple. Discuss a few pages from the book we read together. We will discuss

The importance of a farmers job. We will discuss the importance of planting the

Seeds.

And making sure we will take proper care of them so they can grow to become an

Apple tree. We will discuss these different jobs that each of us had to so with this

Experiment and the importance of a farmers job. We will enjoy watching the seed

With the proper tender loving care.
