KCL has developed an electronic instrument panel P/N 3392379 for Genset engines. This panel will be fitted on
all V-12, K-6 and KV engines in phases. It has been introduced on all VT/A-1710-G engines in first phase and the
first engine serial number with this change is 25214375 dispatched from KCL in February 1996.

The electronic instrument panel indicates the parameters as shown in the photograph.

Advantages of electronic panel :

1. Modular design has been provided for better serviceability.

2. Indications are in bar graph form consisting of LEDs, easy to read.

3. Warning indication in the form of Red LEDs has been provided for each parameter.

4. Easy fitment and removal due to detachable pre-wire harness.

Major Components of electronic panel :

Following components are used for fitment of electronic panel.

1. Different modules for four parameters. Details of each module have been aiven in later oaaes of this Service
Parts Topics.

2. Engine wiring harness : P/N 3392293

3. Wiring harness (Panel to controller) : P/N 3392373

4. Sensor lub oil temperature : P/N 3392030

5. Transducer lub oil pressure : P/N 3392445

6. Sensor water temperature : P/N 3392030

Specifications of modules :

1. Module for Engine RPM (P/N 3392375) :

Input for RPM is taken from magnetic pick up in the form of pulses. Twenty LEDs are used for complete
range selection. Depending upon the number of ring gear teeth, input frequency varies.

Range af RPM :
Idle : 900 - 1185 Run : 1350 - 1635

2. Module for Engine lubricating oil pressure (P/N 3878673) :

Lub oil pressure is sensed through a transducer P/N 3392445 fitted on main oil gallery. This transducer
outputs resistance value depending upon the oil pressure. Fourteen LEDs are used to indicate the
pressure in steps of 0.5 Kg/sq.cm.

Range for lub oil pressure

Green Zone : 1 - 7 Kg/Cm2

Red Zone : < 1 Kg/Cm2

3. Module for Engine lub oil temperature (P/N 3878674) :

Input is taken through the sensor P/N 3392030 fitted on the oil pan. This module has fourteen LEDs to
indicate the temperature. Each LED corresponds to resolution of 5 deg. C.

Range for Iub oil temperature

Green zone 60 to 105 deg. C.

Red zone 105 to125 deg.C.

4. Module for Engine water temperature (P/N 3878675) :

Input is taken through the sensor P/N 3392030 fitted on thermostat housing. Fourteen LEDs are used
to indicate the temperature. Each LED corresponds to resolution of 5 deg. C.

Range for water temperature

Green zone 40 to 95 deg. C.

Red zone 95 to 105 deg. C.

Note to Service :

1. Each module can be identified by the part number punched on it from the back side. Please ensure the
fitment of correct part number while field replacement.

2. Magnetic pick-up, sensors and harness will be available on part level basis for service requirements.

3. In case of any abnormality observed regarding working of the panel, please refer page no. 5 for Trouble-
shooting.

4. Procedure to replace different modules is detailed on page nos. 6 & 7.

CAUTION :

The starting procedure of engines fitted with electronic panel is different than regular starting procedure.
Please follow the procedure given below.

Starting Instructions :
(24 V Negative Ground system)

1. Press the push button, simultaneously turn the key to start position.

2. Release the key switch immediately when engine cranks. Key will come to RUN position.

3. Watch the lub oil pressure indication. Release the Push Button when engine oil pressure indicated is more
than 2 Kg/Cm2.

This change is because the starter is connected through starting key and NOT through the push button.

Cleaning of the panel :

Clean the assembly from outside periodically to remove the dust, oil or other contaminants. Use clean dry
air at low pressures (less than 20 PSI) to clean the panel.

Trouble-shooting :

Sr. Nature of problem Probable cause/s Corrective action

Ensure that all the connections at sensors and panel are correct and tight.

Note : To identify whether sensor or module is faulty, De-link the connector at sensor end. Short-link the
connector at # 1 and 2.

a. If all LEDs are glowing, module is OK-and sensor is faulty,

b. If LEDs are NOT glowing, sensor is OK and module is faulty.

3. No / incorrect - Transducer connection open Check/Correct.

Note : To identify whether transducer or module is faulty, dis-connect the pin at transducer.

a. If all LEDs are glowing, module is OK and transducer is faulty,

b. If LEDs are NOT glowing, transducer is OK and module is faulty.

at Run OR Idle.

5. No / incorrect - Magnetic pick-up gap incorrect Check/Correct.

Procedure for replacement of modules :

Warning :

Before carrying out any repairs of the panel, dis-connect the battery supply.

Note : Procedure for replacing any module is the same.

1. Switch off the battery supply.

2. Dis-connect all connections to the panel.

3. Rear panel plate is mounted with the help of four screws on the corner. Remove these screws to open the
plate.

4. Positions of the modules from connector side is

as follows.

1. RPM module

2. LO Pressure module

3. LO Temperature module.

4. Water Temperature module.

Red wire

5. Remove the CPU connector (white plastic) from

the module. Please note the position of this
connector. Red wire is at the bottom side of the
panel

6. Remove two mounting screws of module.

7. Remove the module and replace it with the new

module.

8. Install the mounting screws of the module. Please

refer the photograph. White plastic CPU connector
should be fitted as shown. Please ensure that
the notch on both the halves match with each
other. It will ensure the correct fitment of the
connector.
