COURSE OBJECTIVES
We will cover repertoire of modern orchestral string instruments. Students will develop
listening skills and learn skills necessary to be able to discuss forms, genres, and general
history of string instruments.

REQUIRED MATERIALS
Over the course of the semester, we will be creating a timeline to display both history
and genre development. Students are expected to provide 30 4x6 notecards. A
method for taking notes and listening to music will also be expected.

GRADING METHOD
10% Class Participation (Attendance and Attentiveness)
20% Listening Quizzes (4 quizzes)
10% Individual Assignments
20% Semester Long Diagram
20% Midterm Exam
20% Final Exam

ATTENDANCE
Students are allowed ONE unexcused absence during the semester on non-quiz or test
days. Without proper documentation (student health center excuse or other pre-
approved method), quizzes and tests may not be made up. Students are still
responsible for turning in assignments on time even if not at class. Three late entrances
to class will equal one unexcused absence.

TECHNOLOGY IN THE CLASSROOM

Cell phones are not to be used during class.
Computers may be used for note-taking or other class-related purposes, but a student
may be asked to put it away if it is being used inappropriately. This can affect your
Attentiveness grade.
ACADEMIC INTEGRITY
Please refer to the Drake University Student Handbook for further clarification.
Cheating, copying, plagiarizing, etc, will not be tolerated.
