Notes:
When I arrived, Kasey as already working on phonics with a small group of students all three
were engaged. Kasey kept the group moving as I addressed the teacher. The pace of the
lesson was good. She switched the task for the group a couple times and the transitions were
smooth. All of the kids were sounding out the words using white boards. One of the students
said, Bag is easy! Kasey replied, Lets see. Then the student struggled sounding out the
words and Kasey provided good scaffolding to support the student. She modeled for him, he
practiced and was successful. This was followed with positive feedback from Kasey. After the
phonics practice, Kasey went to playing a game, called (see-spot-spell). The kids all seemed
to enjoy the game and were all engaged in the activity.
What specific suggestions can you offer for this student's growth in the area of professional
education?
Just keep track of all the different things that your cooperating teacher does to manage multiple
levels and ages of students. What systems does she have in place to accomplish differentiation?
Additional Comments:
I have observed her in several different occasions over the last two years. Aside from this practicum, she
participated in a reading clinic in Caledonia for two different semesters last year. I am confident that she
is ready for her student teaching experience.
