Purpose People credited with this unit standard are able to:
inspect scaffolding to determine its readiness to erect the
next lift;
prepare equipment on a lower lift for passing to the lift
above;
use proprietary frames;
correct use of a safety harness for the erection of
scaffolding;
safely access the lift above;
erect guard rails and stop ends for scaffolding; and
follow operational procedures for the erection of
scaffolding.
Explanatory notes
1 This unit standard has been developed for learning and assessment on-job or off-job
in a simulated environment.
2 All tasks must be carried out in accordance with the Best Practice Guide (BPG)
based on:
a quality management systems;
b designers requirements and manufacturers' operating instructions; and
government and local government legislation, regulations, bylaws, Health and
Safety in Employment Act 1992, and Health and Safety in Employment
Regulations 1995;
c the most up to date version of the:

items/scaffolding-best-practice-guideline-for-scaffolding-in-new-zealand, and all
subsequent amendments and replacements.
3 Definition
Scaffolding as defined in the BPG and in the Health and Safety in in Employment
Regulations 1995.
4 Assessment
Competency in the outcomes of this unit standard must be demonstrated on a
scaffold at height. This is defined as beginning at least the height of the scaffolds
second lift.
It is expected that candidates will have experience of working safely at height with
proprietary systems.

Evidence requirements
Range all standards are present as per the scaffolding plan and are
staggered or ready for topping off (hemping).

2.1 Determine a safe zone for the passing of equipment to the lift above.
2.3 Establish the sequence for the passing of equipment to the lift above.
2.4 Stack safely the equipment to be passed up below the safe zone of the lift
above.

4.2 Identify the correct points of attachment on the scaffold in preferential order.

Please note

before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses
of study leading to that assessment.
