24. Senator Ita S.J. Enang SSA to the President on National Assembly Matters
(Senate) (Akwa Ibom}
NIGERIANS WANTED ''CHANGE'' AND NOW WE HAVE GOT IT. NO-ONE SHOULD
COMPLAIN BECAUSE THIS IS WHAT OUR PEOPLE WANTED. THOSE OF US THAT
WARNED THE COUNTRY THAT THIS WOULD HAPPEN WERE INSULTED AND
LAMPOONED. NOW WE HAVE TO LIVE WITH THE CONSEQUENCES OF OUR CHOICE
FOR THE NEXT FOUR YEARS. WELCOME TO THE NEW NIGERIA. WELCOME TO
''CHANGE''.
Enang, who is from Akwa Ibom State in the South-South geopolitical zone of the
country, at an event in Abuja, said the Federal Government deserved the support of
the Cross River and Akwa Ibom people as well as the entire inhabitants of the South-
South because the current administration had been kind to them and generous in
terms of appointments from the two states.
He noted that Buhari gave the two states the Office of the Head of the Civil Service
of the Federation and Chief of Naval Staff.
Enang said, He (Buhari) has given us the Chief of Naval Staff, a very high ranking
officer in the federal security council. He has given us the Minister of Budget (and
National Planning) and, then, my humble self, as the Senior Special Assistant (to the
President) on National Assembly Legislative Matters. He has also given us the
Minister of Niger Delta Affairs.
Along with Enang, the President had approved the appointments of Babachir David Lawal
from Adamawa State as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation; Abba Kyari from
Borno State as his Chief of Staff; Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali (retd.) from Kano State as
Comptroller-General, Nigerian Customs Service; Kure Martin Abeshi from Nasarawa State
as Comptroller-General, Nigerian Immigration Service; and Suleiman Kawu from Kano State
as SSA on National Assembly Matters (House of Representatives).
Like Enang, Adesina was the only southerner in his own batch.
Also in the batch were the Presidents Chief Security Officer, Abdulrahman Mani;
State Chief of Protocol, Abdullahi Kazaure; Aide-De-Camp, Lt.-Col. Muhammed
Abubakar; and the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu.
Only Adesina, who hails from Osun State in the South-West, came from the South.
At the same time, Uwais, Ojudu and Dipeolu were deployed to the Office of
the Vice President, Abdullahi was deployed in the Ministry of Budget and
National Planning.
The four special advisers were among the 15 approved for Buhari by the
National Assembly last year.
Some others had since resumed work having been earlier inaugurated.

The appointment according to a letter signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, took
effect from June 1, 2015. The appointment took many political observers by surprise because the president already has a
personal photographer Bayo Omoboriowo.
Rumours that the Aghaezes appointment was influenced by Reverend Father Ejike Mbaka, a known supporter of the
president also didnt help matters. Many say the appointment was unnecessary and a waste of resources.
Sunday Aghaeze Aghaeze has 16 years working experience has a professional photo journalist
2. Ben Akabueze (Special Adviser on planning to the minister of budget and national planning):
A curious appointment, given the vast experience of Akabueze and also the thought behind appointing a special adviser for a
board room guru like the present minister, Udoma Udo Udoma.
One would think that Akabueze is bigger than the office and should be fixed in a capacity where he can make real impact
and not creating an unnecessary office for him. He is the immediate past commissioner for economic planning and budget in
Lagos state
4. Abike Dabiri-Erewa (Senior special assistant on foreign affairs and the diaspora):
Perhaps, her commendable performance as the chairperson House of Representatives committee on diaspora affairs between
2007 and 2015 influenced the presidents decision. But, a ministry that already has 2 ministers, Geoffrey Onyeama
and Khadija Bukar Abba hardly needs anyone to function as the presidents senior special assistant, especially for a
government that promised to prune down on costs. What an irony! Abike Dabiri-Erewa was chairman of the House of
Representatives committee on media and publicity between 2003 and 2007 and later chaired the House committee on
diaspora affairs between 2007 and 2015
5. Senator Ita Enang, senior special assistant on National Assembly matters (Senate): Ita Enang; Honourable
Suleiman Kawu, senior special assistant on National Assembly matters (House of Representatives):
First of its kind in the history of Nigerias democracy, Buhari perhaps showed us what to expect when he appointed the duo
last year. Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Late Musa Yaadua and his successor, Goodluck Jonathan all had one individual as
their senior special assistant on National Assembly matters. But for reasons best known to the present administration, it has
to be two. Another clear case of waste!
President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Bashir Ahmad as his Personal Assistant on
New Media.
Mr. Bashir, 24, is an indigene of Kano state. Until his appointment, he was the Online
Editor (Hausa) for Leadership Newspaper.
Mr. Bashir graduated from Bayero University Kano in 2013, with Bachelor of Arts in Mass
Communication.
He worked as an online editor and reporter at Rariya Hausa Newspaper, before joining
Leadership as an online editor.
Mr. Bashir also worked as the personal assistant on new media to Sam Nda-Isaiah, the
publisher of Leadership, who contested along Mr. Buhari for the All Progressives
Congress, APCs presidential ticket for the 2015 election.
He later served at the Buhari Support Organization (BSO) prior to the presidential
elections.
The new presidential aide will oversee Mr. Buharis communication on social media and
related platforms.
Here are Jonathans special advisers and the positions they occupied:
