Polar Bear Writing grade 1: As a class we reviewed the components of our stories
that fell under the following sentence frames: Is_________, has ______________, and
can___________. Students were asked to write 3 sentences for each sentence frame and
used some of the ideas that we brainstormed as a class. They were asked to write at
least 9 sentences in total. The ideas brainstormed were given as a starter but
students were encouraged to extend the ideas and add their own creative (juicy)
words. The students were also encouraged to use a variety of sentence starters.
Please remember all students progress at different rates and levels. Many students
were very excited about this activity as it allowed room for creativity!
